While some accessory trends require you to turn your attention to your wrist or neckline, the latest trend to pop up on our radar—cap-toe shoes—forces you to pay attention to your feet, but we promise it is worth it. After all, not only did major fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent show cap-toed heels in their spring shows, but top tastemakers like Alexa Chung and Gwyneth Paltrow have been spotted giving this trend their own twist. With that said, we suggest you click through to today’s Accessory Report for all the need-to-know details on this must-try trend!
Who is trying this trend?
Alexa Chung, who is known for setting trends and not following them, was one of the first to try this look, wearing a pair of cap-toe heels to the amFAR Gala back in February. A few weeks later, Gwyneth Paltrow donned cap-toe heels for the opening of the Louis Vuitton/Marc Jacobs exhibition in Paris, France. Later in March, Solange Knolwes sported cap-toe heels for a Stuart Weitzman party in New York. More recently, Brooklyn Decker slipped into a pair for a press conference in Seoul, South Korea.
How are they styling it?
Happily, there are a number of really fun ways to try this trend. For instance, you could follow in the footsteps of both Brooklyn and Gwyneth and pick a pair of cap-toe heels that match your outfit. Brooklyn picked a pair of red-toed Christian Louboutin heels to match her red Katie Ermilio dress, while Gwyneth picked a pair of black-bodied heels to match her Louis Vuitton pant suit. On the other hand, you could do as Alexa has done and pick a pair of heels that match a part of your outfit—her silver-toed Louis Vuitton heels match the silver studs on her skirt. Or, if you want to make a bold statement, you can make Solange’s look your own by picking a pair of colorful shoes that set off a similarly colorful outfit. Her mint-bodied heels gave her yellow-and-white shift dress an eye-catching and surprising twist.
How can I make this look my own?
Now that you are ready for the fun part—shopping—you will be pleased to know that there is a cap-toe heel for every budget. For instance, if you have a few dollars to spare, we are smitten with Yves Saint Laurent’s Opyum 105 Pumps ($675). They have such a classic look.
