Trends can be tricky. On one hand, it is nice to give a seasonal trend your own personal twist, but on the other, you don’t always want to follow the pack. Happily, the latest accessory trend to pop up on our radar—feather earrings—falls nicely in between. Although plenty of stylish starlets are trying it out—including Sienna Miller, Vanessa Hudgens, and Drew Barrymore—it is a trend that can be molded to match your personal style. So, read on for all the need-to-know details and make sure you take notes as there is plenty of inspiration to be found in today’s Accessory Report!
Bright & Colorful Earrings
British actress Sienna Miller is known for her carefree spirit so we weren’t surprised to see Sienna step out in a pair of colorful feather earrings back in April. The blue-hued earrings went perfectly well with the rest of her modern-boho ensemble: a printed dress, a fuzzy fur coat, and suede ankle boots. On the other side of the color spectrum is actress and aspiring rock star Gwyneth Paltrow, who was sporting a pair of bright pink feather earrings when she performed with Cee Lo Green at the 2011 Grammy Awards in February. If your personal style leans towards bright and colorful, make sure you check out Michelle Roy’s Bright Feather Earrings ($53), Urban Outfitters’ Geometric Bead Feather Drop Earrings ($20) and Serefina’s Exotica Earrings ($68).
Leave it to hippie-chic ladies like Alessandra Ambrosio and Vanessa Hudgens to mix it up a little—both girls have been spotted out and about wearing a single feather earrings. Alessandra worked the look at this year’s Coachella Festival, pairing her brown earring with a white mini dress, a printed Tolani scarf, and suede boots. Meanwhile, Vanessa worked the look at the Alice + Olivia show at New York Fashion Week in February. Wearing a single earring is a great way to give your look an interesting and fresh twist. If you want to try the look for yourself, consider these options: Free People’s Serrano Feather Earrings ($68), Gilded Lily Goods’ Five Feather Earring ($40), and Love Child’s Chain Drop Earrings ($66).
Last but not least, we turn to Drew Barrymore and Heidi Klum for inspiration on how to wear oversized feather earrings. Drew was spotted at an industry event in West Hollywood last month wearing an extra-long brown feather earring that complemented her newly-dyed red hair. (Drew also opted for the one-sided look.) Heidi, however, opted for a slightly different look. For the Los Angeles premiere of Hoodwinked Too, Heidi wore a pair of oversized gold hoops embellished with a large brown feather. For both Drew and Heidi, the result is a boho-glam look that definitely adds a surprising element. On that note, if you want to try a similarly cool like, pick up Arden B’s Feather Hoop Earrings ($24), Alkemie Jewelry’s Asymmetric Feather Earrings ($145), or Born Gypsy’s Peacock Feather Earrings ($72).
