Accessory Report: Statement Earrings

Why should your clothes get all the attention? This spring, one of the biggest and boldest trends is the statement earring—and you don’t have to be a genius to see why. Not only are they refreshingly easy to wear, but there are options for girls of every style. And with top tastemakers like Rihanna and Nicole Richie giving the statement earring a whirl, you will be in amazing company. Need we say more? Click through to today’s Accessory Report for the scoop on who is trying this trend, where you can find a statement earring of your own, and how you should wear it!

Who is trying this trend?
Unsurprisingly, Rihanna was one of the first to try this trend. Proving that she is a leader and not a follower, she wore a pair of shimmering statement earrings to a pub in Dublin, Ireland, back in November. In December, Nicole Richie wore a pair of chandelier statement earrings to the 2011 UNICEF Ball in Beverly Hills. It was in February, however, that this trend truly skyrocketed. Both Dianna Agron and Anna Paquin wore statement earrings to the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party in West Hollywood.

How are they styling it?
The best thing about this new accessory trend is that you don’t have to have an invitation to a red carpet event to try it for yourself. For instance, you could do as Rihanna has done and use your statement earrings to glam up a casual party ensemble. Rihanna paired her earrings with a little black dress, a fur vest, and simple platform heels, which instantly brought her outfit to the next level. Of course, if you do have a big event coming up, we definitely suggest you take tips from Nicole, Dianna, and Anna. Nicole used her Neil Lane earrings to give a long leather-paneled dress a girly twist, while Dianna used a pair of Neil Lane earrings to give a bohemian dress a touch of color. While Anna Paquin went for an embellished mini dress over a gown, the effect was the same—her Wilfredo Rosado jewels added a touch of color to her look and helped ensure she would stand out from the crowd. As you can see, it doesn’t matter which direction you are heading, or what your personal style revolves around, because statement earrings are a great way to add a personal and eye-catching touch to any outfit you put on.

How can I make this look my own?
Ready to shop? If you are leaning towards Rihanna’s glitzy and glamorous style, make sure you check out Ben-Amun’s Crystal Chandelier Earrings ($355), which certainly live up to their name. We also like Isharya’s Maharani Bling 18-Karat Gold-Plated Drop Earrings ($130), which feature a hint of gold, and Juliet & Company’s Cinquante Quatre Earrings ($46). If you like Nicole’s chandelier-style earrings, we suggest you check out Sparkling Sage’s Relic Coral Tone Chandelier Earrings ($60), which will add a touch of color to your outfit. Finally, if you want to add color to your outfit the way Dianna and Anna did, we suggest you check out Tarina Tarantino’s Classic Siam Chandelier Earrings ($63) and Beth Lauren’s Emerald Mirage Earrings ($128) for a hint of color and Oscar de la Renta’s 24-Karat Gold-Plated Seaglass Clip Earrings ($290) and Kendra Scott’s Multi-Stone Chandelier Earrings ($70) for maximum color.

I’m personally obsessed with large earrings. The bigger, the better.

My sis thinks it’s tacky, but I think otherwise. Haha.
