Adele graces the cover of Vogue magazine’s March 2012 issue. Inside, she discusses her voice troubles, the future, and being in the public eye.
On her voice troubles: “I’ve been singing properly every day since I was about fifteen or sixteen,” she says, “and I have never had any problems with my voice, ever. I’ve had a sore throat here and there, had a cold and sung through it, but that day it just went while I was onstage in Paris during a radio show. It was literally like someone had pulled a curtain over it.”
On the future: “I’m in it for the long run,” she says. “I don’t want to be disposable. You’re only as good as your next record.”
Of being in the public eye: “I hate the red carpet. I don’t feel insecure, I just feel like, Oh, I don’t want to do this. I literally get a stomach cramp. At the VMA’s last year I felt really out of my comfort zone because there were so many superstars there. But that’s been the case from day one. I never feel like, Oh, yeah, I should be here.”
