It seems that Barbie isn’t experiencing the economic downturn like the rest of us. Just weeks after she allowed Christian Louboutin to dress her, Barbie has been styled by Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, forming part of Comme des Garçons’ ‘Jingle Flowers’ collection.
Barbie is dressed in a sleeveless, silk-lined dress that is covered in the Jingle Flowers print – a set of photographs that feature bright flowers. The full skirt flares out from the waist in a cut reminiscent of the 50s. The limited-edition Barbie forms part of the Barbie Collector Platinum Label collection and comes in a box that also features the ‘Jingle Flowers’ print.
Other products in the Jingle Flower series will include wallets, tees, a perfume, chairs and even snowballs (though we’re not sure we quite understand the marketability of floral snowballs).
Kawakubo’s Barbie sold out in Tokyo last week and is now set to arrive at other Comme des Garçons stores this week, retailing for £225. In London, you can pick her up at the Dover Street Market.
