Beauty Queen: Spring Tips

This season, the spring runways were filled with amazing beauty looks, but interestingly, many of them were looks that can easily be worked into your everyday life. With that said, today’s special edition Beauty Queen story features four different beauty looks—courtesy of Jaime King, Alessandra Ambrosio, Kristen Stewart, and Nicole Richie—all of which take their roots from the spring runways. Better yet, we have the tips and tools you need to try these looks at home! So what are you waiting for? Click through to today’s story for all the details!

Change your look with brightly colored locks.
If you are ready to make a bold change this spring, why not take tips from Jaime King—not to mention brands like Thakoon and Peter Som—and work brightly-colored locks? Not only is this look guaranteed to turn heads, but everyone can try it. So, where to begin? First, you need to make sure your locks are light enough to accept the color, so you may need to pick up a bottle of bleach. Then, simply grab a jar of Manic Panic hair dye in your favorite color and apply as per the directions. And if all this sounds a little too messy, simply head to your favorite salon and have them do the work for you.

Paint your nails in a pretty pastel hue.
It is no secret that pastel hues are having a moment in the fashion world right now, but we are just as excited about incorporating pastel hues into our beauty routine this spring. As for inspiration, we’re looking to Alessandra Ambrosio for ideas—Alessandra was recently spotted out and about sporting pale blue-grey nails. The key to mastering this look is to use a glossy polish or apply a layer of top coat—you want to make sure your nails look glossy, not matte. As for colors, we recommend Essie’s Nail Polish in Absolutely Shore ($8), Butter London’s Nail Polish in Hen Party ($14) and Revlon’s Nail Enamel in Blue Lagoon ($5).

A dark and smoky eye is subtly sexy.
No one can deny that a smoky eye is sultry, sexy, and oh-so chic, but it also one of the major trends to come off the spring runways. With that said, we suggest you look to Kristen Stewart for inspiration this season. Kristen used charcoal grey and steely blue hues to create a smoky eye for a recent outing in Paris. Notice how she kept the rest of her makeup to a minimum? This allowed her eye to be the focal point of her beauty look. If you’re ready to make this look your own, we recommend you pick up Bobbi Brown’s Smoky Eye Palette ($65)—it has everything you will need in a handy to-go palette.

Opt for a classic look with a perfectly red pout.
Lastly, we are looking to Nicole Richie for inspiration on how to create a red pout, a classic look that was reinvented this season at shows like Yves Saint Laurent and Dior. We like the way Nicole allowed her red lips to take center stage by pairing them with a low-key eye—Nicole used just a hint of mascara—and sunkissed skin. To make this look your own, make sure to line your lips with a lip pencil like Napoleon Perdis’ Lip Pencil in Roccoco Red ($20)—this prevents the lipstick from bleeding. Then, look for a true red lipstick. We like L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Lipstick in British Red ($9).
