How To Get Soft Lips

Winter brings with it cold weather and sad lips. Dry, cracked and sad lips. Whether you want to try out a new lipstick for your Christmas party or you want your lips to look smooth and supple for that New Years kiss, it is important to start your beauty routine early on. Here are some of our best tips for how to get soft lips.

#1. Exfoliate your lips weekly. You can make your own lip exfoliation product by combining 1-tsp olive oil, 1-tsp honey and 2-tsp granulated sugar in a bowl. Mix the ingredients together to form a paste and then smooth it onto your lips. Massage the paste in circles and then rinse from your lips with warm water. Do not scrub too hard.

#2. Avoid licking your lips at all cost. Though licking your lips is a quick fix to moisten your lips, in the long term it actually causes more harm than good by rubbing away the remaining moisture.

#3. Your lips, as well as the rest of your body, will benefit from drinking more water. Water = hydration = good.

#4. Whenever your lips feel dry, use a nourishing lip balm with natural products. A personal favorite is the Beeswax Lip Balm by Burt’s Bees. During sunny conditions, you can use their Sun Protecting Lip Balm SPF 8. Alternatively, look for products that contain vitamin E, shea butter or cocoa butter, all of which add extra moisture.

#5. At night, smooth on Vaseline or petroleum jelly for extra hydration and moisture. Vaseline is available worldwide and is very budget-friendly. Rub a layer into your lips in circular motions, and then add an extra-thick layer on the top. The top layer will sink in as you sleep.

#6. Finally, never share your lip balms with anyone and throw out any lip balms that you have had for more than a year, as they can store bacteria.
