After every fashion week, you will always find that a few key colors and color combinations trumped all the rest. This fall, those colors include Bordeaux red, navy and blue, all shades of pink, and gold. Now, while some of these colors are easy to work, others can be tricky, so we have fashioned today’s Style Spy story into a guide to working fall’s best colors. Click inside, pick a color, and then follow the notes to find out what your favorite color works with and how to try it yourself. Read on!
Who is wearing it: Malin Akerman.
What to pair it with: We like pairing Bordeaux red with shades like dark violet-blue and dark purple-red. Black also works, always.
How to try it: Pair Kimberly Taylor’s Kathleen Dress ($112) with black heels, or team Topshop’s Moto Bordeaux Supersoft Skinny Leigh Jeans ($76) with Bobi’s Wrap Waist Top ($74).
Navy and Blue
Who is wearing it: Hailee Steinfeld
What to pair it with: Given that this is already a color combination, we suggest you stick with just navy and blue and don’t look outside that box.
How to try it: Pair either David Lerner’s Keyhole Colorblock Dress ($330) or Tibi’s Ponte Colorblock Dress ($470) with a pair of strappy black heels.
Shades of Pink
Who is wearing it: Solange Knowles
What to pair it with: We like the idea of pairing, say, a pale pink dress with a turquoise shoe. Solange’s black and white works well, too.
How to try it: If you feel bold, team Red Valentino’s Short Dress ($315) with Diane von Furstenberg’s Lucette Shoes ($595) in teal. If not so old, grab the black pair!
Who is wearing it: Kate Bosworth
What to pair it with: Pair gold separates (e.g. a skirt or top) with a black or khaki separate. For an event, try a delicate gold sandal or a black bootie.
How to try it: For day, couple Topshop’s Casual Shirt ($72) with Ports 1961’s Metallic Skirt ($324). At night, pair TFNC’s Sequin Dress ($34) with Kate Spade’s Gold Get Evening Pumps ($350).
