These days, it isn’t unusual for a celebrity to turn designer; in the case of actress Joy Bryant, however, it is all for a good cause. This summer, Bryant has teamed up with friend and handbag authority Monica Botkier to create a soft leather satchel, with fifty percent of the proceeds benefiting Oxfam America, the international relief and anti-poverty organization for which Bryant is an ambassador. “I am a Sister on The Planet for Oxfam. It’s an initiative engaging women of all walks of life to raise awareness about the environment.”
The Joy Satchel is made of soft brown pebbled leather; according to Bryant, it is the “kind of leather that ages really well and will get nice and worn and rugged looking.” It features leather topstitching, a rolled handles, bronze hardware and a detachable shoulder strap that converts the bag from a shoulder bag to a cross-body/messenger bag. “Inside is a detachable clutch that is the perfect size to take out at night,” adds Bryant. “It’s like three bags in one.”
Botkier’s The Joy Satchel is available exclusively at Shopbop.com for $575.
