Model Style: Sasha Pivovarova

As well-versed fashion fans, you know that there are a slew of stylish models in the industry—from Danish beauty Freja Beha Erichsen to eccentric Aussie Abbey Lee Kershaw—and for that reason, it can be hard to pick between the assortment of model muses for our regular Model Style story. In spite of this, we always know a stylish subject when we see one and this month we are simply smitten with Russian stand-out Sasha Pivovarova. What is it about Sasha’s style that makes her so muse-worthy? The list is endless—her flawless skin, her doll-like eyes, her penchant for mixing playful pieces with high-end designer looks. To sum up, there is nothing about Sasha we don’t love, making her the clear choice for our latest edition of Model Style.

But first, as always, let us give a little background on today’s model muse. Sasha—who was born and raised in Moscow, Russia—was discovered when friend, photographer and now-husband Igor Vishnyakov submitted photos of her to international modeling agency IMG. Sasha was quickly snapped up by IMG and the rest, as they say, is history. Sasha made her runway debut at Prada’s Fall 2005 show, and has since walked for such industry heavyweights as Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Rodarte. Her instantly identifiable face has been seen on the cover of US Vogue, Vogue Italia, French Vogue, British Vogue and Vogue Nippon. Plus, she has served, at one point or another, as the face of Prada, Giorgio Armani, and Longchamp. Oh, did we mention that Sasha is the unofficial muse of Miucca Prada? As one of the most well-known and successful models in the fashion world, it is no surprise that our model muse knows a thing or two about style!

In her off-duty hours, Sasha clearly prefers to dress in comfortable pieces with a modern, must-have twist. Case in point: this heather-gray Rick Owens Dress ($560), which she paired with a luxe black fur coat and peep-toe ankle boots. Happily, maxi dresses and faux fur accents are one of fall’s biggest trends and, as such, there are plenty of similarly stylish pieces in stores now. We suggest starting out with Warehouse’s 3/4 Sleeve Maxi Dress ($47.18) or T By Alexander Wang’s Fitted Long Sleeve Maxi Dress ($145)—both can transition easily from summer to winter. As the days get colder, throw on a cropped faux fur coat, such as Halston Heritage’s Faux Goat Short Fur Coat ($445) or Manoush’s Faux Fur Jacket ($205.57). For the finishing touch, add a pair of Aldos’ Tyms Zip Detail Ankle Boots ($168.50).

Although it is a well-known fact that the best model style-spotting takes place at the Tuileries during Paris Fashion Week—after all, this is where street style stars are born!—we were particularly thrilled to spot this bohemian-luxe ensemble on Sasha. Her rainbow Missoni dress looks effortless, especially when layered under a black cardigan and fur vest, and paired with tan ankle boots. For a similarly stylish ensemble, start out with a colorful maxi dress—we like Missoni’s Camargue Lurux-Knit Maxi Dress ($1,110), obviously, and Traffic People’s Ethnic Wave Print Silk Maxi Dress ($58.98). Complete the look with J Crew’s Dream Shawl-Collar Cardigan ($88) and 7 For All Mankind’s Fur Vest ($565), and then throw on a pair of ASOS’s Tasca Suede Lace-Up Wedge Boots ($92.68) for good measure.

While we love Sasha’s penchant for layering, we also love the low-key looks she puts together for lighter weather. For example, Sasha was spotted at Milan Fashion Week in an unfussy gray maxi dress, jeweled ballet flats, and red lipstick—all in all, an ensemble that is easy, effortless and super-accessible. To replicate Sasha’s ultra-cool look, try a body-clinging maxi dress like Splendid’s Cotton Racer-Back Maxi Dress ($125) or Topshop’s Laddered Jersey Maxi Dress ($60). Then, simply add a pair of Guess’s Emphasis Embellished Satin Ballet Flats ($89) and a dash of Lancome’s L’Absolu Rouge ($29) in Absolute Rouge—you’ll be turning heads in no time.

While Sasha’s style isn’t easily summed up, one thing is certain: you can usually count on a unique mishmash of colors, fabrics and textures, such as this playful combination—floral leggings, biker boots, and leather jacket—which Sasha was spotted wearing in Milan. In this outfit, Sasha’s edgy, rock & roll-side comes out to play, but is tempered slightly with the addition of a feminine floral print—overall, it’s a unique mix that totally works. To assemble an equally stylish ensemble, layer Fossil’s Maribelle Leather Bomber ($198) and J Crew’s Perfect-Fit Long-Sleeve Crewneck Tee ($24.50) over a pair of Topshop’s Floral Cord Skinny Trousers ($90). Accessorize with Calvin Klein’s Lightweight Lurex Scarf ($19.99) and Jeffrey Campbell’s Harness Harley Boots ($268), and you’ll have a look that is perfect for shopping, partying, and playing.

For our final dose of inspiration, we must draw your attention to this perfectly put together party outfit. Namely, leather shorts, a boyfriend blazer, and patent ankle boots, which Sasha was snapped in last year. Of course, an all-black ensemble is a signature supermodel look and for good reason: it is chic, timeless and has plenty of panache! For a similarly stylish look, start with a pair of leather shorts, such as Halston Heritage’s Leather Hot Pants ($345) or Blank Denim’s Leather Shorts ($98). Layer your chosen pair under Topshop’s Ruched Sleeve Blazer ($125) and J Crew’s Asymmetrical Ruffle Tee ($14.99), and then throw on Stella McCartney’s Faux Patent Ankle Boots ($236).

To say that Australian model Jessica Hart is gorgeous is an understatement—just look at her long legs, signature sweet gap-toothed smile and bright eyes—but here at Mama’s A Rolling Stone, we’re prepared to look past her superior beauty and focus on one thing only: her style. In fact, it’s fair to say that ever since we spotted Jessica on MTV’s The City, we’ve been, well, smitten. Her expressive mix of grunge and glamour, feminine and masculine, understated and yet perfectly put-together, has had us admiring from afar ever since she graced our television screen. In other words: we simply couldn’t look past Jessica for our latest edition of Model Style.

But first, as always, let us give a little background on today’s model muse. Jessica—who was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia—was discovered after entering and winning a modeling competition at the age of fifteen. A few years later, after stints in Paris and Tokyo, Jessica moved to New York City and quickly became one of the modeling world’s rising stars. Since moving, she has appeared on the cover of Vogue Australia and Elle Germany, walked the runways for Betsey Johnson and Agent Provocateur, and modeled for Guess, H&M, Moschino and Victoria’s Secret, among others. With that, it is time to salute Jessica’s natural beauty and flair for fashion in today’s edition of Model Style—sit back, relax and enjoy with five of Jessica’s best ensembles!

Model Style: Jessica Hart

In her downtime, Jessica clearly prefers flat shoes and low-key pieces, but that doesn’t mean she can’t pull of heels and party pieces with aplomb, as this confidently cool ensemble illustrates. In fact, this strapless little black dress, which Jessica wore to a benefit in East Hampton (far left), is one of our favorite off-duty looks, thanks to its ease and effortlessness—two major perks of party dressing! For a similarly stylish ensemble, start out with a playful black party dress—we like Karen Millen’s Feminine Flirtatious Strapless Ruffle Dress ($303.30) and ASOS’s Ruffle Hem Cocktail Dress ($30.33). Then, simply add a pair of metallic platforms, such as Roberto Cavalli’s Leather Platforms ($535.37), and an oversized pendant necklace like Yochi’s Large Silver Coin Necklace ($75).

Like many models, Jessica has a weakness for vintage band t-shirts, a passion she quells by scouring sites like eBay. Spotted last month on the streets of New York (second from left), Jessica demonstrated the art of wearing her fashion item du jour—the band tee—by pairing it with bright American Apparel shorts, a cute fedora and Doc Marten boots. We love the way she gives her rocker-chic ensemble a playful twist by adding a bright color—all in all, this outfit is cute, casual and definitely accessible. To give this ensemble a try, you simply must start with WGACA Vintage’s Vintage Ripped Rock Band Tees ($125 each) and a pair of Vintage Doc Martens ($128) from Free People. To give your outfit a modern twist, add American Apparel’s Stretch Bull Denim High-Waist Cuff Shorts ($46) and Staring At Stars’ Nubby Fedora ($28).

Jessica is a self-confessed lover of quirky hats—”They just add that extra touch,” she once told Vogue Australia—and, as such, she is always willing to throw on a bowler, fedora or Akubra wide-brimmed hat to elevate her look from uncomplicated to cool. Case in point: in June, Jessica was spotted in SoHo (middle) wearing an unfussy, 90s-inspired look—floral bodycon dress, studded Converse sneakers, felt fedora and a cross-body bag embellished with fringe. To replicate Jessica’s ultra-hip look, try a form-fitting printed dress like Motel’s Cloud Belinda Dress ($70) or Floral Hook & Eye Bodycon Dress ($58.98). Then, just add Converse’s Heat Seal Low Tops ($29.95) and JJ Winters’ Fringe Chain Bag ($460).

Although Jessica considers herself a “jeans and t-shirt kind of girl,” we’re fairly sure that she’s always, no matter what she wears, one of the most stylish girls in the room. This particular ensemble, which Jessica wore in May to the first anniversary presentation of Music Unites in New York City (second from right), is proof positive. Her leather pants and band t-shirt—this time, an ode to her boyfriend’s band, Tamarama—were modest, edgy and oh-so-suitable for the model girlfriend of a rocker. To assemble an equally rock & roll ensemble, layer Buddhist Punk’s AC/DC Cotton T-Shirt ($65) over a pair of leather skinnies—we like Mackage’s Stretch Leather Pants ($685) and Muubaa’s Zip Detail Leather Trousers ($126.38). Finish off your look with Alexander Wang’s Anya Wrapped Boot ($413).

Last, but certainly not least, we must draw attention to this cleverly composed fusion of feminine and masculine pieces. Namely, a little black dress and her worn-in pair of Doc Marten boots, which she wore in July while out and about in New York City (far right). The bonus with an outfit like this? The form-fitting dress is versatile enough to be worn with rugged boots, but would also look killer with a pair of heels. The choice is yours! For a similarly flexible get-up, try pairing Vero Moda’s Drape Front Jersey Dress ($23.59) with Vintage Doc Martens. Add Free People’s Fray Leather Obi Belt ($49.95) and Red By Marc Ecko’s Rounded Drawstring Pouch ($50.99) to complete the look.
