Chic Shoe Buys

When composing an outfit, there are some of us who start with our clothes and pick shoes to match. On the other hand, there are some of us who believe shoes are the heart of every outfit. If you fall into the latter category, we are positive that, by the end of today’s Chic Shoe Buys story, you will have fallen in love with several new pairs of lustworthy shoes and maybe even splurged a little. After all, who can resist a pair of Diane von Furstenberg’s Artemis Heels ($325)? Not only is the bright tangerine hue the perfect shade for the spring/summer season, but they are so versatile – they would look just as amazing with a pair of skinny jeans as they would with a pencil dress. Likewise, how gorgeous are Prada’s Cutout Platform Sandals ($636)? Wear them with wide-leg jeans or a breezy sun dress for a 1970s-inspired twist.

Chic Shoe Buys: Fall 2010 Boot Guide

It seems like just yesterday we were musing over bright bikinis, printed sundresses, and strappy sandals, but, dear readers, summer is over and fall has well and truly arrived. As a result, we only have one thing on our mind: boots! Now, like most girls, we know you probably have an assortment of options in your closet—from thigh-high boots to platform-heel ankle boots. Then again, like most girls, there’s always room for another pair! Accordingly, we’d like to welcome you to a very special edition of Chic Shoe Buys: our Fall 2010 Boot Guide! Whether you’re heading to a rooftop party, or spending the day shopping with the girls, we’re sure we have the perfect pair of boots for you! Read on!

1. Britany2 Over Knee Boots ($210) from Topshop
Why not jump headfirst into fall fashion with a pair of leather thigh-high boots that will give your closet an immeasurable boost? While we’re sure they would look amazing with just about anything, we particularly like the idea of pairing them with skinny jeans, an oversized faux fur coat, and rocker chic hair (à la Kate Moss.)

2. Avenue Wool High Lace Up Hiker Boot ($109.53) by ASOS
Hiking through the forest never looked so stylish! Although we jest—we don’t hike!—these blue wool booties will inject your closet with an air of country chic, minus the mud and leaves. Pair them with a floral dress and opaque tights, throw on a fur-trimmed anorak, and you will be ready to go.

3. Clover Platform Boots ($160) by Steve Madden
These black booties are anything but basic, thanks to a killer platform heel and long laces. In fact, we’re just positive you’ll be wearing them all season long—with little black party dresses, with skinny jeans, with pleated leather skirts, or with dressy shorts. They’re part downtown cool, part rock & roll, and part modern gypset.

4. Amore Shearling Ankle Boots ($190) from Topshop
Burberry’s fall collection earned plenty of buzz, thanks in part to its surplus of luxe shearling. If you can’t afford the real thing, may we direct you to these smart shearling boots from Topshop. Worn with a draped olive green dress and an oversized shearling jacket, they’re only a mindset and a wad of cash away from the real thing.

5. Blake Lace-Up Low Boots ($109) by Lucky Brand
These olive green boots toe the line between spring’s military trend and fall’s 90s grunge homage. We love the thought of pairing them with black jeans and an oversized biker jacket, or layering them underneath a floral maxi skirt and a slouchy sweater. Both looks will evoke the cool aesthetic of a downtown girl.

6. Lecaros Boots ($130) from Aldo
Once the snow starts, you won’t be able to look past these military-inspired ankle boots. The luxe leather and buckle detail add a tough element to your look, while the thick wool lining and rubber sole furnish your ensemble with a practical component. Layer these over jeans and add an oversized wool cape for a cozy and chic outfit.

7. Pull-On Booties ($118) by Two Lips
These boots instantly call to mind the model off-duty aesthetic of Erin Wasson—they’re beaten-up in a good way, perfect for pairing with tiny denim shorts and studded bandage dresses, and will see you through a slew of wild parties. Another plus? For the girl who needs options, they come in three neutral colors—brown, grey and black.

8. Gilda Boots ($595) by Jean-Michel Cazabat
For a heavy dose of rock & roll, look no further than these amazing caged-in booties. Not only are these heels perfect for sitting front row at fashion week, they’ll also look amazing on a first date, at your holiday party, and on a girl’s night out. In other words, is there anywhere you wouldn’t wear them?

9. Copito Boots ($139) by Jessica Simpson Collection
We can’t get enough of lace-up platform-heel booties. So, what better way to incorporate the look into your caloset via a suede boot in one of the season’s best colors—forest green? Wear these with skinny jeans and a chunky sweater for a cool-yet-casual ensemble, and pair them with a black bandage dress for a hot night out.

10. Thigh-High Stretch Suede Boots ($595) by Belle by Sigerson Morrison
Although we don’t deny the power of a killer heel, a flat-heeled pair of thigh-high boots is just as necessary—think Sienna Miller and Kate Moss circa 2005. Go simple by pairing them with a smart boyfriend blazer and blue jeans, or add flair by coupling them with a floaty white smock dress and a floppy felt hat.

Chic Shoe Buys

Oh, the excitement of September! Whether you’re heading to fashion week in New York, Paris, London, or Milan, roaming the city streets on Fashion’s Night Out, planning an end-of-summer vacation, or plotting your fall/winter wardrobe, there’s no doubt about it: you’re going to need some shoes! Happily, our monthly edition of Chic Shoe Buy is here to help! Whether you have a specific occasion in mind, or you’re just looking for inspiration and ideas, we’re sure we have a pair of boots, flats, sneakers, or sandals to suit you! Read on!

1. Organza Bow Detail Flat Sandals ($396) by Prada
In these last, dying days of summer, why not splurge on a pair of sandals that will undoubtedly serve you well for several summers yet. Although reminiscent of gladiator sandals, these are softer and more romantic—accordingly, pair them with printed frocks and loose tunics for a fun, feminine look that never goes out of style.

2. Polly Leopard Platform Pump ($1,067) by Charlotte Olympia
Here at Mama’s A Rolling Stone, our eyes are always drawn to a luxe leopard print, especially one highlighted with a splash of neon coral! Pair these platform pumps with faded denim jeans, skinny leather pants or a form-fitting black bandage dress for a look that is show-stealing and decidedly rock & roll.

3. Bow Peep Toe Flat ($153.22 – $174.24) by Kate Spade
End-of-summer vacations, parties, and events all call for simple-yet-stylish flats, such as these patent red peep-toes. While we’re sure they would dress up any outfit, we particularly like the idea of pairing them with cropped cigarette jeans (à la Isabel Marant’s Fall 2010 collection) and adding a Breton striped boatneck top. So French chic, so classic!

4. House Of Cards High Sneaker ($195) by Marc By Marc Jacobs
Just as there are some girls who can’t look past a platform pump, there are other girls who collect sneakers like they’re going out of fashion. If this sounds like you, may we direct you to these sassy high-top sneakers. The playful print adds pizzazz to your outfit, while the rubber sole adds a practical element. What more could you ask for?

5. Cario Wedge ($208) by Guess By Marciano
There is something about these suede wedges that instantly evokes a slew of suitable ensembles in our imagination. We love the thought of pairing them with a striped, cap-sleeved minidress, but we can also see them working well with dressy shorts or skinny jeans. Plus, with three color options—cherry red, metallic bronze, and black—there’s a style for everyone!

6. Trecker Lace Up Shearling Boots ($92.68) by ASOS
Of course, as fashion fans, you know that shearling is one of fall’s biggest trends. What better way to incorporate the look into your closet than via a chic shearling-trimmed bootie in one of the season’s favorite colors—military green? Wear these with skinny jeans and a cape, or pair them with a sheer dress and black tights—the choice is yours.

7. E-Moxy Leather Lace Up Boots ($395) by Elizabeth & James
If there is one shoe that every girl should have in her closet, it’s a pair of lace up ankle booties in classic black. These textured leather boots satisfy all the requisite criteria and, as such, will complement almost everything in your wardrobe. Another plus? They’re designed by the ever-stylish Olsen twins.

8. Tessa Over The Knee Boots ($350) by House Of Harlow 1960
These boots—part of Nicole Richie’s fall collection for HOH—instantly bring to mind the hippie-meets-rocker aesthetic of, say, Stevie Nicks. The fringe detail that runs down the back of leg will add boho charm to your look, but the simple black leather and slim silhouette will keep your look modern.

9. Chelsey Pumps ($265) by Rock & Republic
If you’re the type of girl that likes to add a little flair to your fashion, these classic black pumps might have all the panache you need. Thanks to the smattering of silver mini-studs on every side, these shoes are bold but not brash, which makes them perfect for a night out on the town and a work function.

10. Astor Platform Sandals ($111) by MICHAEL Michael Kors
For a heavy dose of 1970s hippie chic, look no further than these amazing brown platform sandals. Not only are these heels perfect for pairing with floral tea dresses and long maxi dresses, they’ll also look amazing with a pair of inky blue wide-leg jeans, a sheer blouse, and a floppy felt hat. Its bohemian-luxe with a modern twist.
