Street Chic: Spring 2011 Fashion Week

For the past few weeks, the streets of New York, London, Milan, and Paris have been buzzing with even more fashionable femmes than usual. Why, you ask? It is Spring 2011 Fashion Week, of course, which means the crème de la crème of street style stars are out in full force. Now, naturally, we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to explore all the major street style moments from fashion week, which is why we’d like to welcome you to this very special edition of Street Chic! That’s right, dear readers—whether you’re prepping for a major fashion event, topping up your fall shopping list, or even if you’re already pondering outfit ideas for fashion week in February, we’re positive you’ll find plenty of inspiration from the streets of New York, London, Milan, and Paris in today’s story! On that note, we present Street Chic: Spring 2011 Fashion Week!

NEW YORK
The streets of New York are overflowing with street style inspiration, from 1970s bohemian-luxe (left) to 1980s rocker chic (right)—all you need to do is peek inside your closet and choose which girl you’d like to be today. If you’re leaning towards boho, start your look with a romantic Victorian blouse; we like Haute Hippie’s Victorian Lace Blouse ($385)—in black or cream—and Forever 21′s Victorian Woven Blouse ($27.80). Add a pair of ink-blue skinny jeans, such as J Brand’s 910 Skinny Low Rise Jean ($159), then accessorize with Topshop’s Felt Floppy Hat ($50) and DKNY’s Sylvana Lace Up Bootie ($285). If you prefer a rock & roll edge, we suggest pairing ASOS’s Button Down Shirt ($33.70) with a pleated skirt such as Elizabeth & James’ Twill Party Skirt ($147.50) or Robert Rodriguez’s Lace Hem Pleated Skirt ($129.90). Complete your look with Seychelles’ Romance Boots ($140) and BDG’s Suede/Leather Backpack ($78).

LONDON
Across the pond in London, the girls on the streets are equally stylish and similarly inspired—in fact, you’ll find a modish mash-up of styles, from grunge-with-a-modern-twist (left) to hippie gorgeousness (right). If you’re inclined to go grunge, we suggest layering a pleated leather skirt, such as Alice + Olivia’s Box-Pleated Leather Skirt ($396), under a slouchy sweater; we like Rag & Bone’s Greville Sweater ($325) and Topshop’s Knitted Textured Slouch Jumper ($80). Finish your look with Me Too’s Lisbon Oxfords ($109.95), Rag & Bone’s Shoreditch Cashmere-Blend Leg Warmers ($150) and Staring At Stars’ Rope Band Felt Fedora ($28). If you favor a hippie-luxe look, start with a pair of wide-leg corduroy pants; we like Free People’s Trouser Flare Cords ($78) and Lands’ End’s Bootleg Cords ($44.50). Then, add a faux fur coat, such as Dna’s Natural Fur Bolero ($510) or Pepe’s Faux Fur Jacket ($160.08). Finish your look with ModCloth’s Crazy For Paisley Scarf ($21.99) and Diane Von Furstenberg’s Opal Wedges ($295).

MILAN
After London, the fashion set moved to Milan, where street style stars opted for sophisticated, feminine ensembles (left) and wild rock & roll-inspired leopard looks (right)—all in all, everything we have come to know and love about Milan. If you fancy a flirty, feminine look, layer American Apparel’s Leaf Flower Lace Tee ($38) underneath a full black skirt; we like St. John Collection’s Pleated Stretch Georgette Skirt ($414) and Mango’s Wool Mix Camel Full Skirt ($72.29). Nine West’s Trixxy Oxfords ($108.95) and ASOS’s Leather Portfolio Clutch ($92.68) will finish off your ladylike look. Of course, if you’d rather a subtly sexy vibe, there are plenty of options. Start with a draped animal-print dress, such as Nanette Lepore’s Come Hither Dress ($298) or ModCloth’s Animal Magnetism Dress ($62.99), and then throw on a chic cape; we like Rebecca Minkoff’s Woven Double-Breasted Capelet ($550). To finish, add a pair of Chinese Laundry’s Lucky Strike Sandals ($80.10).

PARIS
Last, but not least, Paris, where fashion week comes to an end and street style stars put together their final looks. Key ideas? Feminine/masculine mash-ups (left) and quirky-cool ensembles (right)—overall, a new and modern take on Parisian chic. If you favor the boy-meets-girl look, layer Hinge’s Cotton Twill Boyfriend Blazer ($43.90) over a pair of high-waist shorts; we like Only Hearts’s Double Knit Shorts ($68) and Forever 21′s High Waisted Wool Blend Trouser Short ($22.80). Finish off your look with vintage peep-toe sandals and a pair of over-the-knee socks such as Topshop’s Rib Over Knee Socks ($12) or American Apparel’s Opaque Cable Knit Socks ($13). On the other hand, if you’re leaning towards a quirky fusion of colors and prints, mix ASOS’s Leopard Print Hook & Eye Corset ($18.54) with ASOS White’s Waterfall Chiffon Maxi Skirt ($101.10). Throw on Ecote’s Mohair Cardigan ($58), accessorize with Nine West’s Studded Quilted Shopper ($70.99), and you’re all set.
