Top Buys: Animal Accessories

by Bryna on August 11, 2010

Despite the fact we’re smack-bang in the middle of the dog days of summer, we’re excitedly anticipating the fall/winter season and all the new styles it brands. At Mama’s A Rolling Stone, one of the fall trends we are most eager to try is the animal-print accessory, a look we recently featured in Trend Report: Fall 2010. Accordingly, for our latest Top Buys story, we scoured all our favorite online shops and picked out a selection of animal-print accessories that we know you’ll love.

Happily, the options are endless. In fact, there are a slew of different styles, price points and prints to choose from, which makes this one of the most versatile fall trends. If you’re a bohemian at heart, pay particular note to Mulberry’s Loopy Leopard Print Scarf. If your personal style leans towards rock & roll, we love Dolce & Gabbana’s Platform Pumps. Similarly, if you’re partial to a contemporary look with a classic twist, don’t go past Diane von Furstenberg’s Cheetah Print Sunglasses or the Marc By Marc Jacobs Franny Tote.

Whether you opt for cheetah or leopard, a pony-hair style or leather iterations, a subtle spotted ring or a wild platform pump, we’re sure that you’ll find more than one animal-print accessory to make your own. On that note, we present Top Buys: Animal Accessories! Read on!

Top Buys: Animal Accessories

1. Loopy Leopard Print Twill Scarf ($250) by Mulberry
While most of today’s leopard prints are in traditional camel hues, Mulberry’s shades-of-purple iteration is a cool option that will add a quick pop of color to your ensemble. Layer it under a faux fur coat this fall for a bohemian-luxe look.

2. Franny Animal Print PVC Tote ($330) by Marc by Marc Jacobs
Marc By Marc Jacobs is always a go-to for on-trend essentials such as tote bags, sunglasses and cute footwear. Consequently, when we spotted the Franny Tote, we just couldn’t say no! With plenty of room to store your other fall essentials—think chunky knit scarves and cozy capes—we’re fairly sure you’ll be saying yes, yes, yes!

3. Platform Pump ($575) by Dolce & Gabbana
Just like Mulberry’s multihued scarf, Dolce & Gabbana’s Platform Pumps give fall’s animal-print trend an injection of color. While the shape is practical, the print is playful, which makes this platform pump the perfect fall investment piece—you can wear it to the office and a Friday night cocktail party!

4. Judy Turnlock Wallet ($19.99) from Nine West
Although this is a decidedly bold trend, it doesn’t have to be worn in an equally bold manner. As a matter of fact, we love small splashes of animal print, such as this pattern wallet from Nine West. Use it to elevate your look from simple to statement-making without any fuss.

5. Enameled Leopard Ring ($11.80) by ASOS
If your personal style preference is more subtle, less show-off, this may be your lucky day. ASOS’s Enameled Leopard Ring is suitably understated and yet decidedly chic—in fact, the oversized leopard silhouette conjures up images of vintage cocktail rings, a reference that is always on-trend.

6. Cheetah Print Sunglasses ($165) by Diane von Furstenberg
We can’t get enough of Diane von Furstenberg’s feminine, downtown vibe, so we were beyond thrilled to find these wild Cheetah Print Sunglasses. While the silhouette is sophisticated, the print is edgy and bold, a fusion that we can’t tear ourselves away from this fall.

7. Samie Animal Print Ballet Flat ($98) by Banana Republic
Trendsetters like Kate Moss and Ashley Olsen have been sporting leopard-print ballet flats for years. In other words, these are a must-have piece in your fall wardrobe. Of course, like any investment, the pay off is huge: they can be worn with skinny jeans, bandage skirts, leggings, denim cut-offs and more—the list is endless!

8. Animal Print Rings ($20) by Blu Bijoux
At Mama’s A Rolling Stone, we’re always looking for budget-friendly ways to incorporate trends into our closets—as a result, we’re completely enamored with these Blu Bijoux Animal Print Rings. There is a wide range of styles—from zebra print iterations through to a “paw” print style—but we’re so happy with the price, we might just get all three.

9. Kenton Leopard-Print Belt ($88) by MICHAEL Michael Kors
Earlier this year, actress Emma Watson strode through the Glastonbury music festival in a unquestionably chic outfit: denim cut-offs, a sleeveless buttoned shirt and, the pièce de résistance, a leopard print belt. This simple-yet-stylish outfit is easy to emulate, especially when you start with this ultra-chic belt from Michael Michael Kors.

10. Gummo Bracelets ($18) from Aldo
Nothing accessorizes a bohemian-luxe ensemble better than a stack of jangling—consequently, we’re elevating all our fall boho outfits with this animal-inspired stack from Aldo. Of course, the beauty of this bracelet set is its flexibility: if you want to take it down a notch, just throw on one or two. Feeling elaborate? Throw them all on.

Chic Shoe Buys: July 2010

Whether you’re heading to an upscale cocktail party, trolling the city streets for a bargain, planning your fashion week outfit or plotting a festival-ready ensemble for Lollapalooza, a new pair of shoes is always a welcome addition to your closet. That’s where we come in! As always, our monthly edition of Chic Shoe Buys is dedicated to finding the perfect pair of shoes for any and every occasion – or, at the very least, inspiring you when it comes time to create your next ensemble.
