When Chanel says jump, you jump. By that, we mean when Chanel says jade green nail polish is the “it” color for F/W 2009, you believe them. Chanel’s La Vernis Nail Color in Jade sold out within 40 minutes of its October launch and is now a veritable collector’s item.
The limited edition color started out as a one-off tint created for Chanel’s F/W 2009 show. Meant simply to enhance the brighter jade rings and necklaces that would feature in the show, the color took on a life of its own, with fashionistas around the world proclaiming their love for the look. Quickly gaining a cult following, Chanel launched a limited edition run of the color.
It’s not the first time Chanel has lead the way in nail color. In 1994 they released Rouge Noir, a dark polish with a blood-red tint. After Uma Thurman wore the polish in Pulp Fiction, customers were placed on a waiting list that would extend to over 6 months.
With Chanel’s Jade now sold out everywhere, it’s time to turn to Ebay if you want to get your hands on it. Bottles of Jade have been sold for over $200 on the auction site so you’re in for a battle. If you don’t have it in you, prepare for Chanel’s next limited edition shade. Particulière, a pale grey, will be released in 2010 and is likely to be a sellout.
