How to Create Beautifully Shaped Brows

Eyebrow shaping tips

It’s amazing how big a role eyebrow shape plays when it comes to the overall look of your face. Strong, full brows are in this season and look especially stunning during the winter.

Whether you want bold brows or ones that are thinner and a little more laid-back, there are a few key shaping tips you need to follow to get them right. We advise seeing a professional first, who can determine and create the best look for you; then you can maintain your brows yourself after the initial appointment (and with the proper tools, of course!).

Or you can just take the plunge at home, following these three crucial guidelines for fashioning the right eyebrow fit for your face. All you need is an eyebrow pencil.

Inner Brow. Take your pencil and align it vertically, so that it runs from the outermost edge of your nose to the inside of your inner eye. {LINE A} This is where your brow should start.

The Arch. Once again, use your pencil to align it with the outer most part of your nose, but this time line it up so that it crosses over the edge of your actual eye (the iris). {LINE B} This is the spot where your eyebrow’s arch should reach its peak.

Outer Brow. Finally, take your pencil from the same point on your nose and run it so that it lines up with the outer most edge of your entire eye (beyond the whites). {LINE B} This is where your brow should end.

Quick Tip: Tweeze in the direction of your hair growth. This will avoid breakage and ensure hairs grow back in smoothly and bump-free.

Having followed these three guidelines, pluck accordingly, add some eyebrow pencil (filling in any sparse spots you may have), and finish with a brow mousse, which will set both the shape and the color. Below our are favorite products for at-home brow grooming.

1. Tweezerman Ultra Precision Slant Tweezer, $35
Tweezerman is the best brand out there for brow grooming, and this golden slant tweezer wins the top prize for easy, effective and precise plucking. In our opinion, it’s the best of the current bunch.

2. Tweezerman Pink Perfection Slant Tweezer, $22
If you want to add a little color to your beauty tool box (and spend a little less money), this pretty-in-pink tool is also an excellent option. It has the same Tweezerman slant for excellent accuracy, as well as a sharp, perfectly aligned tip.

3. Maybelline Define-a-Brow Eyebrow Pencil, $6
This pencil is perfect for brow-shaping beginners and full-fledged pros. It’s precise, easily blendable, and has a handy comb built on the opposite end of the pencil for additional shaping. Plus, the pencil swivels up from the inside, so there’s no need for a sharpener.

4. Blinc Eyebrow Mousse, $24
A good eyebrow mousse is the best way to keep your shape intact, as well as add a final, finishing touch that will bring all of your efforts together. It’s also great for filling sparse spots and taming strays.
