As much as you might hate to admit it, there was a time, most likely before you were born, when your mother was hip. Maybe even chic. New York’s Piper Weiss was so inspired by her own stylish mother that she set up a website devoted to the concept.
It turns out, there are so many once-fashionable mothers out there, that Piper now gets over 100 submissions a month and is compiling a book of the best photographs. My Mom, The Style Icon will be published next year and Piper is now taking submissions.
The website itself is a humorous but positive site filled with real-life-yet-retro inspiration. Piper takes special pride in providing a site that people can relate to. “The focus is of celebrating what she was like as a person and not event as a mom, but as someone who was stylish and had fun and lived a really full life,” Weiss told the LA Times.
There’s still time to volunteer your mother as a style icon. Was your mother stylish enough to cut it?
