The nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton is guaranteed to be the wedding of the year—possibly, the century—so it no surprise that there is burning interest in the wedding dress. Perhaps unfortunately, Middleton is obliged to choose a British designer, which means such designer heavyweights as Karl Lagerfeld, Alberta Ferretti, and Vera Wang are out of the running—but that doesn’t mean they don’t have ideas! On the contrary, dear readers! Fashion authority WWD has asked a slew of designers to submit sketches of what they think Middleton should wear. For instance, Karl Lagerfeld (sketch above left) sees Middleton in a “Victorian wedding dress, with a twist—high boots and open in the front,” while Alberta Ferretti (sketch above right) envisions an “embroidered, fluid-silhouette dress in precious fabrics that will help her make an everlasting impression.” Although these ideas may never come to fruition, we can dream about them until April, when we receive our first look at the real design.
