Fashion Insider: Giovanna Battaglia

Thanks to street style bloggers like Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist and Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil, for the last few years we have been treated to an endless parade of photographs showcasing the most stylish fashion insiders from around the world. As a result, we have become acquainted with the ever-gorgeous, always-stylish Giovanna Battaglia, who worked as fashion director at Vogue Gioiello and Vogue Pelle before moving to New York City earlier this year to freelance for W magazine. We love Giovanna’s daring sense of style and we’re sure you will too, so if you are ready for some killer outfit inspiration, click through for today’s Fashion Insider story and be sure to take notes!

1. Earlier this year, Giovanna was spotted heading to a Paris Fashion Week show wearing a chic ensemble that perfectly illustrates her eclectic vibe—specifically, a pink tweed mini skirt. a brown sweater, patent Mary Jane heels, a shearling-trimmed coat, and a statement necklace. Mixing and matching like this can be tricky, but we think Giovanna has pulled it off with aplomb by sticking to a few select colors and by picking silhouettes that suit her body. You can assemble a similarly stylish outfit by pairing J Crew’s Perfect-Fit Boatneck Tee ($32.50) with Marc Jacobs’ Tweed Miniskirt ($357) or Tracy Reese’s Tweed Mini Skirt ($245). Complete your look with Aldo’s Daisley Heels ($44.98 – $59.98) and Kenneth Cole New York’s Mod Sculpt Statement Necklace ($115).

2. If there is one thing we love about Giovanna, it is that she always gives her outfit a personal twist. For instance, for the Salvatore Ferragamo “Seize The Moment” party in Milan last September, Giovanna paired a floral tulle dress with peep-toe ankle boots and a statement necklace. We love how she has balanced the flirty vibe of the dress with tough accessories—this instantly changes the aesthetic and makes Giovanna stand out from the crowd. Take a page from Giovanna’s book by pairing Alice + Olivia’s Full-Skirted Floral-Print Silk Dress ($550) or Free People’s Sunkissed Summer Dress ($108) with Elie Tahari’s Rose Peep Toe Booties ($299). To finish, add Rachel Roy’s Coin Collar Necklace ($65).

3. As a fashion insider, Giovanna attends many a red carpet event and you can be sure she will look glamorous at each and every one of them. For proof, just look at the ensemble she put together for the amfAR Milano 2010 event last September; Giovanna paired a black hatlerneck gown with peep-toe platform heels and a beaded statement necklace. The outfit has a glamorous 1970s vibe, but thanks to some smart styling, Giovanna’s look is fresh and perfectly modern. To try this look, pick up Carmen Marc Valvo’s Accordion Pleated Halter Gown ($895) or Halston Heritage’s Long-Slit Halter Gown ($455). Finish with Pour La Victoire’s Hiro Platform Sandals ($250) and Marie-Laure Chamorel’s Coral Layering Covered Bead & Chain Necklace ($160).

4. We always love to see how our favorite fashion insiders interpret the latest trends, so we were thrilled to see Giovanna try one of summer’s biggest trends—the little white dress—recently in Paris. Once again, Giovanna tempered the feminine aesthetic of her outfit by adding edgy accessories—in this case, studded Valentino heels, a printed scarf, a leather cuff, and chic sunglasses. The result? An eye-catching outfit that can be worn on many an occasion—whether you are hosting a cocktail party, heading to fashion week, or attending a charity event. For a similarly chic look, pick up The Only Son’s Kristen Shirt Dress ($361.91) or ASOS’s Scallop Detail Shift Dress ($64.63) and pair it with Ivanka Trump’s Lucirene Heels ($112) and your favorite scarf.
