With fall just around the corner, not to mention fashion week, many of us are in need of a fresh batch of outfit inspiration. Well, dear readers, who better to turn to than Julia Sarr-Jamois, the cooler-than-cool editor of Wonderland magazine and a major star in the world of street style? We just love the way Julia creates her ensembles and works them with maximum attitude—whether she is spotted outside a show, or attending a fashion industry party. On that note, if you love Julia the way we do, click through to today’s Fashion Insider story for all the need-to-know details on what she wears and how she wears it!
1. Street style stars often turn out their best outfits at Paris Fashion Week and Julia is no exception. Last year, Julia was spotted at the Paris shows wearing a fur coat, a pleated skirt, a slouchy sweater, knit tights, and metallic ankle boots. We love the way Julia has expertly mixed a variety of textures to create an ensemble that is part bohemian, part rocker chic, and wholly modern. Plus, we like how personal this outfit is, like it has been created piece by piece, with love. Make this outfit your own by picking up Anna Sui’s Tan Faux Fur Jacket ($630) and pairing it with J Crew’s Around-Town Sweatshirt ($68) and Adam’s Chiffon Broomstick Skirt ($177). Then, simply add Elizabeth & James’ Metallic Leather Ankle Boots ($384.99) and you’re all set.
2. We are always excited to see how our favorite fashion insiders style their LBDs, which is just one of the reasons we love the outfit Julia wore while out and about in Paris earlier this year. By pairing her black mini dress with a cropped leather jacket and a pair of laser-cut leather ankle boots, Julia instantly elevated her LBD from basic to bold, giving it a rock & roll twist to boot. The best part about her outfit? It doesn’t just look effortlessly chic, it actually is effortlessly chic. If you are similarly inspired, you can put together an equally chic look by picking up T By Alexander Wang’s Ruched Dress ($155) or Free People’s Easy Rider Dress ($88) and pairing it with Michael Michael Kors’ Moto Jacket ($398) and Betsey Johnson’s Derbby Booties ($99.95).
3. Although some may consider it a style sin, we love seeing how fashion insiders reuse their favorite pieces in new ways. For example, last year, Julia wore the same cropped leather jacket and patent booties seen in the preview outfit. On that occasion, however, she paired them with a python-print skirt and a red sweater. These two little tweaks, however, make a major difference to the overall result. Not only do they add color and print, but they add texture as well, creating an edgy ensemble with plenty of attitude. You can make this look your own by pairing By Malene Birger’s Pinna Angora Sweater ($295) with ASOS’s Snake Print Mini Tube Skirt ($27.44) or AllSaint’s Embellished Python Skirt ($270). Then, simply add the above-mentioned jacket and booties!
4. There is definitely an art to creating the perfect high/low ensemble, but we think Julia has mastered it. For proof, just look at one of the outfits Julia created for the Paris shows last year. By pairing her velvet blazer and metallic booties with casual pieces like ripped jeans and a jersey sweater, Julia has created an ensemble that has a casual twist, but still feels decidedly high-end. The result is a fashion-forward look that works day and night. Inspired? Try this look for yourself by picking up Rich & Skinny’s Legacy Skinny Jeans ($135.80) and pairing them with your favorite slouchy sweater. Then, simply throw on a jacket like Miu Miu’s Leather-Trimmed Velvet Blazer ($1,195) or One Teaspoon’s Velvet Blazer ($248) and finish by adding American Vintage’s Chunky Snood Hood ($69.52).
