Now that the all-important fall fashion issues are behind us, it is time to move on to October and celebrate weekend wear, beauty, city style, modern fashion, fabulousness at every age, and more. As for the covers, they range from celebratory—Elle features four different cover girls in sale to its 25th anniversary—to coupled-up—Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling share a kiss on the cover of W. With that, here’s the scoop on the cover girls, the inside stories, and what you can expect from seven major fashion magazines in October.
Actress Carey Mulligan dazzles in Chanel on the cover of Vogue’s October 2010 issue. Inside, she talks about the cyclamen strapless Lanvin dress she wore to the Screen Actors Guild awards: “I met and fell head over heels in love with Alber Elbaz—he was the sweetest, funniest, down-to-earth, not-intimidating, lovely man.”
Actress Amanda Seyfried appears on one cover, while Lauren Conrad, Megan Fox and Gabourey Sidibe appear on three separate covers of Elle’s October 2010 issue. Why four? This month, Elle celebrates its 25th anniversary by featuring 25 ladies under 25. Inside, Amanda reveals the best and worst things about turning 25: “The best thing is, I’m happy. The worst is that I’m scared; the scariest thing is that I know it can’t be easy – the years to come.”
Actress Drew Barrymore looks picture perfect on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar’s October 2010 issue. Inside, she talks about body image: “I feel like some of my baby fat is going away, and that’s not just physically, it’s psychologically. I think that your body is in tune with your mind and your spirituality and your heart. If things are going better, I just think you look better.”
Actress Katie Holmes looks sultry on the cover of Marie Claire’s October 2010 issue. Inside, she talks about keeping Suri busy: “She does her chores. I think it’s very important. If she doesn’t get her chores done, I notice she’s not really herself. She has to make her bed, she has to take her dishes to the sink, she has to put her clothes in the laundry — you know, that basic stuff. ”
Actress Katherine Heigl goes back to blonde on the cover of InStyle’s October 2010 issue. Inside, she talks about choosing to adopt: “[Husband Josh Kelley] and I had been talking about adopting for a year before it actually happened. I had spoken to him about it before we got engaged because I wanted to be sure we were on the same page-not everybody feels the way I do about adoption.”
Actress Michelle Williams appears on the cover of W’s October 2010 issue, alongside on-screen lover Ryan Gosling. Inside, the Blue Valentine co-stars talk about an extremely raw, very naked sex scene: “We never rehearsed anything, and those were really dark days. We shot the beginning of our relationship first, and it was fun and alive. Then we did the sex scenes and it was…toxic. Ryan and I had stopped relating to each other as Ryan and Michelle. Those scenes took forever.”
Glee actress/singer Lea Michele appears half undressed on the cover of Glamour’s October 2010 issue. Inside, she reveals how she stays fit: “I love being healthy. I get a lot of sleep. I’m a girl who eats. And I feel beautiful no matter how I look. I have my family to thank for that. I’ll have a big Italian dinner, and I don’t give a crap because it makes me happy.”
