Fashion Magazines: September 2010

The all-important, highly-anticipated September issues have arrived, and they’re brimming with page upon page of fall fashion previews, trends, outfits and budget-friendly shopping ideas. As for the covers, they range from momentous—Vogue features Halle Berry, who is the first black woman to appear on Vogue’s September cover since Naomi Campbell in 1989—to marveling—Elle’s September issue features Julia Roberts on no less than six different covers. With that, here’s the scoop on the cover girls, the inside stories and what you can expect from seven major fashion magazines in September.

Actress Halle Berry looks chic—thanks to her short blunt bob—on the cover of Vogue’s September 2010 issue. Inside, she talks being on the cover of the September issue: “What that means for a woman of color and what that means in the fashion world, what that means to pop culture, there was no way I could say, ‘No, I’m not going to be on the biggest issue of the year.'”

Actress Julia Roberts appears on the cover of Elle’s September 2010 issue. Inside, she talks to Elle about Hollywood’s obsession with Botox and plastic surgery: “It’s unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don’t even give themselves a chance to see what they’ll look like as older persons. I want to have some idea of what I’ll look like before I start cleaning the slates. I want my kids to know when I’m pissed, when I’m happy, and when I’m confounded. Your face tells a story… and it shouldn’t be a story about your drive to the doctor’s office.”

Harper’s Bazaar
Actress Jennifer Aniston pays homage to Barbra Streisand on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar’s September 2010 issue. Inside, she talks looking up to Streisand: “Barbra inspires me because there isn’t anything she hasn’t done that she wanted to do, especially as a female in the time when her generation was prime. She’s a true renaissance woman.”

Marie Claire
Designer Mary-Kate Olsen looks chic in military green on the cover of Marie Claire’s September 2010 issue. Inside, she talks fashion design: “It took us a year-and-a-half to make the first t-shirt. I still read scripts, and if something great comes along, that’s great… but this is my day job. The Row is where I go every day.”

Actress Hilary Swank looks sleek and sophisticated on the cover of InStyle’s September 2010 issue. Inside, she talks budget-friendly style: “People around me laugh because I still have a deep understanding of what a dollar gets you and how far to make that dollar go. No wonder my closet is a hodgepodge. I have everything from Louboutins to Payless. From Gap to designer stuff. You don’t have to have a brand name on to be stylish. You can mix it all together and it works.”

Young actresses Yaya DaCosta, Jennifer Lawrence, Greta Gerwig, Kat Dennings, Jessica Chastain, Emma Roberts, Zoë Kravitz and Mary Elizabeth Winstead appear on the cover of W’s September 2010 issue. Inside they talk about the many young actresses blossoming into “brave and beautiful Streeps.”

Actress/singer Jennifer Lopez looks wild in leopard on the cover of Glamour’s September 2010 issue. Inside, she talks about whether a photo shoot is like her real life: “I like to maintain a certain sense of fantasy in my life. I am kind of like that at home. Do I have the full hair and makeup? No. But I might have the nice dress on.”
