Ashish For Topshop

Prepare yourselves: this spring, tracksuits and sweatshirts are permitted. Apparently Alexander Wang’s influence has stretched as far as the new Ashish for Topshop collection, which launches on Wednesday.

The new seven-piece collection features not-one-but-five pieces in jersey fabric. The four pieces – a rolled-up grey marl tracksuit trouser, a pair of matching cuffed shorts, a cropped grey sweatshirt (tied at the waist), a pair of studded tracksuit bottoms and a studded black sweatshirt – all lend themselves to the sporty-chic aesthetic that we saw on the spring runways.

The other two pieces? A biker jacket featuring Ashish Gupta’s trademark 3-centimetre studs and a pair of 1970s-inspired gold platform wedges.

Of the collection, Ashish says: “I love the contrast between soft sweatshirt fabric and metal spikes – it’s classic sportswear meets punk.”  Do you agree? I’m not sure that I could ever pull off the sweatshirt/tracksuit look, even if it is the trend du jour this season.
