Last month, rumors surfaced that Mad Men actress January Jones would appear in Versace’s spring campaign. Reasons to believe the rumors were true: not only did Jones wear a highly-debated Versace gown to the 2010 Emmy Awards in August, she also held up Versace’s Spring 2011 show by 45 minutes in September thanks to a major traffic jam, and was spotted at a Versace fundraiser event in November. Shortly after the rumors surfaced, a Versace spokesman confirmed them to be true, and today we have a first look at the campaign.
The black-and-white images were shot in London by famed fashion photographer Mario Testino. Jones stripped down for the campaign and surprisingly, wears nothing more than the brand’s accessories—bags, shoes, sunglasses and optical frames—in strategically placed positions. Meanwhile, her hair and makeup are reminiscent of the swinging Sixties—an obvious reference to Jones’ role in AMC’s Mad Men.
It sounds like Donatella Versace is pleased with her choice, too: “I am always on the lookout for the next Versace blonde…and in January I feel I have found a perfect Versace woman for the 21st century,” Versace told WWD. “She is chic and elegant but deeply sensual too.”
