Wanderlust designer Elizabeth Kiester is the latest designer to team up with J Crew’s little sister brand Madewell on a capsule collection. While designer collaborations are practically the norm these days, Kiester’s story is far from ordinary; her boutique, Wanderlust, is situated in the small Cambodian city of Siem Reap, gateway to the ancient Angkor Wat temple complex.
Since visiting Cambodia myself in 2006, it is not hard to understand how Kiester fell in love with the country while taking part in a volunteer vacation; as she told Fashionista, Cambodian life is all about, “slow down, breathe, take it easy.” Her capsule collection for Madewell has that same breezy feeling. Included are the eco bracelets that first caught the eye of Madewell box Mickey Drexler, as well as dresses, scarves, flip flops, basket bags and more.
Kiester, who considers herself a hybrid of the west and the east, has channeled that aesthetic into the Wanderlust For Madewell collection; the plaid scarves you see here look like a fresh, Western take on the traditional Cambodian krama, a gingham scarf used by Cambodians in their daily life.
Wanderlust For Madewell launches on May 6 at Madewell stores across the country, or you can visit WanderlustCambodia.com for more inspiration from Kiester.
