When rumors surfaced last week that Google was venturing into the fashion and shopping industry with an e-commerce website, the fashion world was abuzz. Today, the rumors have been confirmed: Google is launching a new website, tentatively titled Boutiques.com, and a set of virtual designer boutiques, on Wednesday.
How will it work? According to WWD, anyone will be able to create and share their own bespoke boutique by selecting style preferences and the looks, brands and items they love. To kick off the endeavor, Google has invited Sarah Jessica Parker, Oscar de la Renta, Tory Burch, Cynthia Rowley, and Isaac Mizrahi, among others, to set up their own virtual stores on the site. Although shoppers will be able to pick from a variety of items to set up their boutique, the actual purchase won’t be completed on Google; rather, you’ll click through to a retailer who carries the item.
To check out the new Google fashion boutique, head to Boutiques.com on Wednesday.
