It Girl: Amber Heard

Despite being one of the biggest rising stars in Hollywood, Amber Heard likes to fly under the radar when it comes to her private life—but that doesn’t mean her personal style hasn’t caught our eye. Au contraire! We are big fans of Amber’s style—whether she is turning heads on the red carpet, taking in an art exhibition, or simply doing a spot of shopping, she always manages to look amazing and stay true to her signature aesthetic. If you, too, love Amber’s style, we suggest you click through to today’s It Girl story to discover all the key elements of her style and how you can make it your own!

What does she wear?
As you can see, even when Amber is just running errands, she always manages to look perfectly put together and stay true to her modern-meets-classic vibe. For instance, while out and about in New York City back in December (far left), Amber effortlessly paired a girly Dolce & Gabbana dress with a printed Proenza Schouler coat and black booties, creating an ultra-chic ensemble that easily transitions from day to night. Later that month, Amber coupled a lace Dolce & Gabbana dress with simple peep-toe pumps for a screening of The Rum Diary in the Bahamas in (second from left). In January, Amber paired a beige trench with a button-down shirt, a black midi skirt, and chunky heels for a day of shopping in Los Angeles—an effortlessly stylish look, if ever we have seen one. More recently, in March, Amber paired a denim shirt with cropped jeans, a wool coat, and studded slippers for a day out in New York City.

How does she style it?
Amber clearly prefers to create her outfits using easy pieces and few accessories, if any. This minimalist stance suits her well, though, because she has the beauty and poise to pull off such understated looks. For more formal events, Amber tends to lean towards pieces that have a feminine look—for instance, a ruffled or lace dress—which she styles with a simple yet flattering heel. Because her dresses stand out on their own, this is all that is needed. As for her off-duty looks, you can see from the photographs above that she usually just adds a simple piece of jewelry—say, a pendant necklace—or an unfussy accessory like a leather belt or studded slipper. Overall, Amber tends to err on the unfussy side—understated silhouettes, neutral colors—and this is a viewpoint that has served her well.

How can I make Amber’s look my own?
For formal events, look for shift or fitted dresses that have girly accents—whether that is a ruffle, a bow, a swathe of lace, or something similar. Both J Crew’s Tiered Shift Dress ($188) and Zara’s Lace Dress ($90) would be perfect. Pair it with a classic heel like Rachel Zoe’s Finn Cutout Wedge Pumps in Tan ($355) or Mango’s Touch Criss-Cross Sandals ($140) and you will be all set. For relaxed occasions, pair timeless pieces like Zara’s Trench Coat ($90) and Equipment’s Brett Shirt ($208) with laidback pieces like ASOS’s Fit And Flare Midi Skirt ($63) and Current/Elliott’s Skinny Boyfriend Jeans ($218). Accessorize with easy items like House of Harlow 1960’s Kail Shoes ($195) and Ettika’s Leather Yellow Jade Pendant ($76).
