It Girl: Clémence Poésy

Question: do French girls have it all? Maybe not, but when it comes to fashion, they do have an innate sense of personal style that can’t be beat. For proof, just look at Clémence Poésy, the subject of our latest It Girl story.

It Girl: Clémence Poésy

Question: do French girls have it all? Maybe not, but when it comes to fashion, they do have an innate sense of personal style that can’t be beat. For proof, just look at actress/model Clémence Poésy, the subject of our latest It Girl story. We love the way Clémence mixes classic items with contemporary pieces to create ensembles that have a perfectly personal twist—whether that means layering a silky shirtdress over skinny jeans for a red carpet event, pairing a tie-dyed tank with a tweed skirt for a film festival portrait session, or giving a low-key ensemble a glamorous spin with a sequined jacket. On that note, if you’re as enamored by Clémence’s effortless vibe as we are, we’re sure you’ll find plenty of inspiration in today’s story, It Girl: Clémence Poésy.

What better way to give an otherwise low-key outfit a glamorous and unusual twist than via gold sequined blazer? Take a look at the outfit Clémence put together for the premiere of Never Let Me Go at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Instead of opting for a simple blazer or leather jacket, Clémence chose a statement jacket which instantly elevated her look from barely-there to bold. To recreate this ensemble, start by layering American Vintage’s Loose Tee ($90) over Gap’s Always Skinny Jeans ($69.50). Next, pick out a jacket with plenty of shimmer; we like Parker’s Sequin Jacket ($297) and Victoria’s Secret’s Sequin Blazer ($159). Finish off your outfit with Clémence’s exact boots—Madewell’s The Buckled Biker Boot ($248)—or a pair of Wanted’s Travel Boots ($59).

Back in May, Clémence attended the premiere of Pièce Montée in Madrid, Spain, wearing a casual and chic ensemble: a silky blue shirtdress, skinny jeans, and t-strap sandals. We love the way Clémence has veered away from the standard red carpet attire and opted for something young and fresh. To recreate this ensemble for yourself, start with a pretty blue dress like Rebecca Taylor’s Tuxedo Dress ($350) or Forever 21’s Silk Bow Dress ($26.90). Then, simply layer it over a pair of blue jeans, such as AG Adriano Goldschmied’s The Legging Jeans ($148) or J Brand’s 814 Low-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans ($165). Finish off your outfit with simple sandals; we like Bernardo’s Mojo Sandals ($124) and Aldo’s Auda Sandals ($17.49). Both pairs have a modern bohemian vibe.

It’s a fact: mixing and matching prints can be hard, sometimes even impossible. Happily, Clémence is highly-skilled in this vocation. For instance, look at the oh-so-chic ensemble she put together for a portrait session at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Her tie-dyed tank, wraparound blouse, tweed skirt, and felt fedora might seem like an unusual combination on paper, but in practice, it is fun and fashion-forward. For a similarly cool look, layer Rumi x RVCA’s Triad Signature Tank ($34) under By Malene Birger’s Cavier Cotton Wrap-Over Top ($70.50). Then, tuck both tops into a pretty tweed skirt; we like Kate Spade New York’s Kylie Skirt ($236.90) and See By Chloe’s Tweed Trouser-Style Skirt ($275). Complete your look with Grace Hats’s Tanya Fedora ($48) and BCBGeneration’s Lamour Pumps ($89).

She’s French, she’s gorgeous, and she’s super-chic, so does it surprise anyone to see that Clémence was one of the most perfectly put together guests at the grand reopening of the Chanel Soho boutique in September? Not so much. The best part about Clémence’s look is how simple and sophisticated it is. Her pleated black dress and peep-toe heels prove once and for all that less is more. To put together an equally unfussy look, start with a flirty black cocktail dress; we like Halston Heritage’s Pleated Dress ($269.50) and Theory’s Satin Shirt Dress ($335). Finish your look by adding a pair of flirty heels. Both BCBGMazAzria’s Front-Knot Peep-Toe Heels ($97.50) and Yves Saint Laurent’s Tribute Platform Peep-Toe Sandals ($525.99) will work perfectly.

Obviously, we love Clémence’s red carpet style but we’re equally enamored with her off-duty dressing. For example, look at the outfit she put together in March for the premiere of Audition at the Theatre Edouard VII in Paris. Her outfit—a patterned knit cardigan, skinny jeans, and suede ankle boots—is simple but stylish, which is perfect for the girl-on-the-go. To put together a comparable look, we suggest layering Forever 21’s Relaxed Dolman Sweater ($24.80) underneath a printed cardigan, such as Free People’s Sparkle Snowflake Cardigan ($148) or Patterson J. Kincaid’s Megan Cropped Cardigan ($168). Then, add your favorite skinny jeans and finish with a pair of suede ankle boots; we like Nine West’s Vanished Oxfords ($108.95) and Me Too’s Lisbon Oxfords ($109.95).
