When it came time to choose our It Girl for February, we decided to shake things up a bit by offering you, our readers, the chance to vote for your favorite fashionable celebrity. We polled, you decided, and the choice was clear: German actress Diane Kruger.
Diane is a darling of the fashion industry. Long before she hit the silver screen, she was a successful model in Europe. Her background in fashion has given her the ability to pull off almost any look, but it’s her bravado that we admire. Diane isn’t faithful to any one look; instead, she has a crack at anything that takes her fancy. As she once said, “Fashion is a form of art to me.”
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that she has friends in high places: “I also have very good designer friends, like Karl Lagerfeld, who sends pieces I might not have thought about. He knows me very well.” Although she might have access to some of the world’s best clothes, she also has that innate sense of style that some are just born with. With that, we present some of our favorite looks.
#1. Here, our It Girl heads out on the town in a luxe bohemian look. Her printed, draped dress and metallic sandals receive a 70s-inspired touch with the addition of a fur capelet. For a stylish take on Diane’s outfit, pair Diane Von Furstenberg’s Dessie Printed Silk Chiffon Dress ($465) with this Grey Faux Fur Crop Coat ($60.36) by Lipsy. Finish off the look with these Caliente Platform Sandals ($49.95) by Carlos by Carlos Santana.
#2. Heading to the 2010 People’s Choice Awards, Diane chose an off-white bandage dress by Herve Leger and then toughened it up with chunky black platform sandals. For a similar style, try this Banded Dress ($68) by Silence & Noise, paired with Pelle Moda’s Valor Open Toe Platform Sandal ($154.95). As you walk out the door, grab this Cary Convertible Box Clutch ($90) by Hype.
#3. As with all our It Girls, versatility is essential. Here, Diane shows us how to put together the perfect low-key outfit, wearing a pair of pink Converse with jeans, a slouchy tee and a chunky knit cardigan. For a similar look, we love Old Navy’s Belted Shawl Cardi Coats ($39.99) paired with this Tie Dye Tee ($35.99) by People’s Liberation. Add a pair of straight-leg jeans and then tie it all up with the Chuck Taylor All Star ($45) by Converse.
#4. One of the things we love most about Diane’s style is her ability to accessorize. This effortless ensemble combines a pretty tulle dress with a dotted scarf and studded gladiator heels, for a look that is, in our minds, downright perfect. Acne’s Cotton Strappy Dress ($350) starts the look off nicely, especially when paired with these Becka Open Toe Studded Pumps ($27.89) by Miss Me. Loft’s Etched Dot Crinkled Scarf ($34.50) will complete the look.
#5. Another fresh take on her casual, downtime look. Here, Diane pairs a leopard fur coat with studded biker boots and a knit beanie for a look that screams rocker-chic. For a similar style, try this Leopard Faux Fur Short Coat ($115.38) by Motel. Add a pair of MIA’s Sole Leather Motorcycle Boots ($49.94) and then finish it off with Topshop’s Cobweb Beanie Hat ($20).
