Ever since she burst onto our television screens as the loveable Summer Roberts in The O.C., Rachel Bilson has been lauded for her vintage-meets-modern aesthetic, as well as her aptitude for flattering her petite frame. From her wide array of figure-flattering mini dresses to what we are sure is an enviable shoe closet, Rachel’s passion for fashion is undeniable; with that, it seems only natural to dedicate this month’s It Girl story to her.

As a self-confessed fashion junkie, Rachel has won the hearts of plenty of fashionistas with her effortless mix of California-chic and 1970s-inspired boho. Her off-duty ensembles are usually a fresh combination of vintage pieces (“I am a vintage fan through and through,” she has said) and contemporary designer looks (“It’s kind of an expressive way of showing who I am”); take special note, also, of her proclivity for bright colors and interesting prints.

Whether you are inspired by Rachel’s girl-next-door vibe or her party panache, one thing is certain: you are sure to find plenty of inspiration as we delve into her style. With that, we present our latest It Girl story, with a detailed look at five of our favorite looks from this emerging style icon.

#1. Back in 2008, Rachel donned a characteristically summer-ready ensemble while out and about in LA’s Silver Lake neighborhood. While Rachel’s simple black mini skirt errs on the unfussy side, the vivid Ikat-print top and sunny yellow sandals bring the outfit to life. You can recreate this shining combo with Asos’s Fairtrade Cotton Animal Print Top ($6.76) or Free People’s Crunch Shell Tank ($26.40), layered under Silence & Noise’s High Waisted Mini Skirt ($29.99). Just remember to add a pair of bright sandals – we like N.Y.L.A.’s Zinnia 2 Sandals ($52.95) – and you’ll be all set for summer.

#2. While Rachel is always adept at sporting brightly color patterns, she is also a natural at perfecting neutral prints. Spotted out and about in Santa Monica last December, Rachel gave her winter wardrobe a workout with this timeless ensemble; paired with skinny jeans and fur-trimmed boots, Rachel’s cropped boyfriend blazer and striped sweater gave the overall outfit an element of classic Parisian-chic. For a similar style, try Topshop’s 3/4 Gathered Sleeve Blazer ($125) with J Crew’s Vintage Bateau Top ($36). Add your favorite pair of skinny jeans and then finish off your look with Spiegel’s Faux Fur Cuff Booties ($85) and Lucky Brand’s Saddle Up Bag ($159).

#3. As any fashionista knows, New York Fashion Week is an essential stop for any celebrity style maven. Here, Rachel demonstrates the must-have pieces that make up the perfect fashion week wardrobe: printed bandage dress, chic ankle boots, dark sunglasses and designer bag. While Rachel’s Diane Von Furstenberg dress sold out long ago, we are just as enamored with DVF’s Uttana Dress ($475) and Cordoba Dress ($209.90). Asos Arizona’s Suede Studded Lace-Up Ankle Boots ($33.82) will perfectly complement both dresses.

#4. Of course, a flair for red-carpet fashion is a key style component of all our It Girls and if Rachel’s head-to-toe Bally look is anything to go by, our latest It Girl is miles ahead in the style stakes. While you can never go wrong with a bright injection of color, such as this pretty seafoam green, we are particularly enamored with Rachel’s choice of footwear – her Bally python platform heels give the outfit a little edge. For a similar look, try Laundry By Shelli Segal’s Skystone Silk Chiffon Ruched Strapless Dress ($147) or Rebecca Taylor’s Perfect Party Dress ($350) with a pair of Chinese Laundry’s Fit 2 B Tied Python Platforms ($79.95).

#5. For our final foray into Rachel’s charmingly chic style, we have chosen an outfit that moves easily between a day out shopping and the cocktail hour. While Rachel’s 70s-inspired pussy-bow blouse gives the outfit a vintage element, her skinny jeans and Mary Jane pumps keep the ensemble feeling fresh and contemporary. Both this Silk Pussy Bow Blouse ($23.67) by Asos and Polka Dot Bow Blouse ($134) by Marc By Marc Jacobs are perfect options if you want to try this look. Add a pair of inky blue skinny jeans and then complete your outfit with either Bronx’s Gossip Mary Jane Pumps ($158.95) or Marni’s Rubber Buckle Strap Pumps ($348).

Rachel Bilson is definitely one of my style icons. She looks good no matter what she’s wearing.
