It Girl: Rihanna

In a world of bright young things, pop star Rihanna might be one of the brightest, thanks in no small part to her shock of bright red hair. And though we love her bold ‘do, and routinely find ourselves bopping along to her catchy songs, it is her unique and adventurous sense of personal style that catches our eye the most! As such, it seems only natural to dedicate our latest It Girl story to her. We love the way Rihanna plays with fashion as though it was her toybox. On any given day, you might find Rihanna hitting the red carpet in slouchy Stella McCartney jeans, attending an awards ceremony in a glamorous gown, or heading out to dinner in a leather body con dress. In other words, she’ll never leave you short of fashion inspiration! On that note, we present It Girl: Rihanna! Read on!

Back in August, Rihanna was spotted out and about in New York City wearing a subtly sexy ensemble: a gray jersey dress with cut-outs, chunky military boots, and a newsboy cap. We love how she has balanced a flirty dress with tough boots to create a totally fresh look. To recreate this edgy ensemble, start with a cut-out sweater dress such as Aqua’s Stretch Cut-Out Side Dress ($146.54) or Torn’s Corey Cut Out Long Sleeve Dress ($209). Next, add a pair of military-inspired boots; we like Boutique 9’s Rivit Boots ($159.90) and Wanted’s Trance Boots ($69). To complete your outfit, throw Badgley Mischka’s Floral-Detail Newsboy Cap ($34) and then add Nicole Romano’s Laced Chain Necklace ($188).

If one thing is true, it’s that Rihanna’s personal style never fails to knock us out. From her elaborate stage costumes—latex bodysuits, anyone?—to her enviable off-duty looks, she is guaranteed to stun at every turn. Proof positive: earlier this month, Rihanna was spotted out at dinner in Santa Monica wearing a pretty maxidress. Combined with minimal accessories and low-key makeup, the look is anything but plain. For an equally polished ensemble, start with a soft gray maxidress; we like Rachel Pally’s Tank Long Sweater Dress ($278), Elan International’s Long Maxi Dress ($29.99), and Romeo & Juliet Couture’s Embroidered Cotton Halter Maxi Dress ($94.99). Then, simply add a pair of Aldo’s Latson Oxfords ($45) or Coconuts’s Byron Oxfords ($59).

One thing that never fails to impress us? A celebrity who doesn’t sacrifice their personal style just for a day off. For instance, just look at the oh-so-chic ensemble Rihanna put together earlier this month for a day out in Beverly Hills. Her oversized cardigan is an absolute must-have—chunky knits had a major moment on the fall runways—and her accessories are just as essential! For a similarly simple-but-stylish look, start with a chunky cardigan; we like VPL’s Convolution Cardigan Sweater ($495) and Numph’s Cowl Neck Chunky Knit Cardigan ($112.06). Layer your cardigan over Red Valentino’s Bow Trim Animal Print Tee ($250) and then add a pair of Rihanna’s exact shorts: J Brand’s Rigid High Rise Shorts ($154). Finish with a fedora, dark sunglasses, and oversized hoop earrings!

While we love Rihanna’s edgier side, we are equally enamored with her softer side. Just look at the flirty and feminine ensemble she put together in August for a night out in West Hollywood. Her taupe tank top, flared floral skirt, and beige pumps are so pretty. Plus, the entire ensemble takes the edge off her shock of red hair. The overall effect? Part girly-girl, part rock & roll. To put together an equally playful look, tuck J Crew’s Microspun Pocket Tank ($25) into Old Navy’s Floral Print Skirt ($25) or Ulla Johnson’s Lisette Floral Skirt ($312). Throw on a pair of Rosegold’s Marni Platform Pumps ($122.26), and then complete your look by adding Charlotte Russe’s Filigree Fan Earrings ($4).

One of the things we love most about Rihanna’s style is the way she never fails to add a personal twist to any outfit. Case in point: in August, Rihanna was spotted out and about in New York City in a simple-yet-stylish ensemble. We love the neutral minidress, but what really makes the outfit stand out is her shoe choice; instead of sticking with tried-and-true black heels, Rihanna has given her outfit a pop of color with a pair of velvet forest-green wedges! Genius! To put together an equally fresh look, we suggest starting with Milly’s Cascade Mini Dress ($180) or ASOS’s V-Neck Pleat Waist Knitted Dress ($55.17). Pretty velvet heels—we like Bumper’s Foxy 01 Platform Sandals ($49.99) and Velvet Angels’ Rue B Slingback Pumps ($162.22)—complete the look.
