Every few years a new Hollywood starlet comes along with a natural talent for working her red carpet look. For the last year or so, we have been more than enamored with Avatar actress Zoe Saldana, who has shown the world a thing or two with her innate sense of style and a true flair for fashion.
Zoe’s style is an effortless mix of street cool and red carpet elegance. Although she manages to look like a knock-out at every Hollywood event, she actually prefers to dress casually. “If you want to punish me, send me to get a manicure or pedicure, or dress me in a skirt or shorts,” she told Siempre Mujer magazine. “But if you dress me in jeans and a button-down blouse, I feel very sexy, feminine and powerful.”
Zoe’s affection for feminine fashion hasn’t gone unnoticed, making her the obvious choice for April’s edition of It Girl. Whether you like her for her cool-yet-casual street style or her party panache, you’ll be sure to find some inspiration below. With that, we present our It Girl story for April, with some of our favorite looks from the Zoe archives.
#1. Here, our It Girl attends a Hollywood event looking chic in a dusty pink, draped skirt and floral blouse. Her platform sandals add some feminine flair to her outfit. For a stylish take on Zoe’s outfit, pair Thakoon’s Twist Skirt ($765) with Topshop’s Rose Floral Pussybow Blouse ($90). Finish off the look with these Naughtty Platform Stilettos ($109.95) by Steve Madden and a pair of Bamboo Jersey Tights ($22) from American Apparel.
#2. Opting for her preferred combination of jeans with a button-down blouse, here Zoe exudes confidence, pairing her outfit with a chic coat. For a similar style, try this Tie Keyhole Blouse ($92.50) by Parker, paired with Mackage’s Elle Leather Detail Coat ($416). Calvin Klein’s Tipper Flat Tall Shaft Boots ($138.23) and a pair of inky blue jeans will complete the look.
#3. As with all our It Girls, a knack for mixing casual elements with a more sophisticated piece is essential. Here, Zoe shows us how to work the casual-yet-classy look by pairing skinny jeans with peep-toe satin pumps and a super-chic Isabel Marant jacket. For a similar style, we love J Crew’s Blushed Tweed Collier Jacket ($325) paired with J Brand’s Petite 12″ Pencil Jeans ($159). Add a pair of nude Princess Peep Toe Shoes ($42.27) from Asos and you’re good to go.
#4. Here, our It Girl shows us how to work your in-flight style. Arriving at an airport, Zoe works a draped cardigan and a simple pair of ballet flats into a stylish outfit. To try this look, start with Smitten’s Short Sleeve Drapey Cardigan ($124.99). Add these RBW8 Skinny Jeans ($235) by Rag & Bone/JEAN and then throw on a pair of Repetto’s BB Distressed Leather Ballet Flats ($250).
#5. For our final foray into Zoe’s style, we absolutely had to include this fresh take on red-carpet dressing. Here, she combines a bright red Giambattista Valli dress with a pair of black platform sandals for a look that is effortlessly sexy. BCBGMaxAzria Runway’s Shirred Bandage Mesh Dress ($380) will steal the spotlight for you, especially when paired with Sergio Rossi’s Colors II Suede Birdcage Sandals ($750).
