While it does seem strange to be lusting over Fall 2010 collections in the middle of a summer heat wave, we are sure that, after just one glimpse at the just-released J Crew Fall 2010 lookbook, you will find yourself in a similar situation. J Crew’s creative director Jenna Lyons first presented the collection in April, where she described her inspiration as “Edie Beale meets the Girl Scouts,” with a nod to the “grandma-chic that we always draw from.”
The Fall 2010 lookbook highlights an earthy, fall-ready palette with a particular focus on military-inspired olive. As with J Crew’s spring collection, the Fall 2010 line focuses on separates that can be easily layered. Jersey sweaters are layered over plaid shirts or under denim vests. Oversized fur vests are worn with tweed jackets, silky wrap cardigans and buttoned cashmere sweaters. Sequins are seen on high-waist skirts and tapered pants. Shorts – the heart of the collection, according to Lyons – are seen peeking out from underneath boxy coats, or layered over thick knit tights (a look that “extends your wardrobe,” according to Lyons).
