Yesterday, Madewell presented its Spring 2011 collection at the brand’s New York showroom, which had been transformed into a mock newsstand complete with coffee and doughnuts. Why the street feel? “We’re absolutely in love with street style in New York,” said Kin Ying Lee, head of design for Madewell. “How people put their loves together in a way that’s unique, thoughtful and individual.” For Madewell, that translates to interesting print combinations (plaid mixed with animal, stripes mixed with ikat), plenty of layering, simple silhouettes, texture (pleated skirts, embroidered shorts), and boyish accents. In addition, a series of t-shirts created in collaboration with Dylan Forsberg of Where I Want To Be.
