Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has put together a 2010 calendar for the Italian edition of Marie Claire magazine. The calendar uses only two models – Chanel muse and French actress, Anna Mouglalis, starring alongside male model Baptise Giabiconi.
Lagerfeld dressed his two subjects in clothes from European cruise collections, couture and a vintage Fendi fur that was designed by Lagerfeld himself and was first worn by Luchino Visconti in 1974’s Conversation Piece. The calendar was inspired by the ‘golden moments of Italian cinema’ and the 25 pictures reference screen stars like Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida and Marcello Mastroianni.
While known for his fashion, Lagerfeld has made a second career out of his photography. He has produced editorials for Harper’s Bazaar, Numéro and the Russian and German editions of Vogue as well as photographing the seasonal advertising campaigns for the three fashion houses under his direction – Chanel, Fendi and his eponymous line.
Thirty thousand copies of the calendar have been produced. The calendar is set to be sold alongside the January issue of Marie Claire Italy, which will hit newsstands on December 16.
