Yesterday. Milan Fashion Week wrapped up six days of shows that saw heavyweight brands like Prada, Jil Sander, and Gucci take to the catwalk—not to mention a slew of breaking news stories set to shake up the fashion world. On that note, click inside to take a look at what went down during the Milan shows. Read on!
The opening look featured an embellished jacket and red-tinted heels; next came an embellished skirt suit, belted at the waist; next a decorated wool trench. From these three looks alone, one thing was clear: this collection might not be wearable by everyone, but for those who can wear Prada, rather than have Prada wear them, it would be a collection to remember.
The Jil Sander show was somewhat upstaged by the news that Raf Simons was leaving his position as creative director after seven years. New York Times critic Cathy Horyn said he presented “a remarkable collection,” but that the scene at the end of the show “was moving and spontaneous, and certainly not like anything I’ve experience in 25 years of covering the industry.”
Season after season, we excitedly turn to Gucci knowing that Frida Giannini will never let us down. This season, the collection was romantic and decidedly dark, jam-packed with gorgeous black velvet, slinky silk pieces, feathers, and tulle—all of which would have been right at home on the Oscar red carpet on Sunday.
