Whether she’s sporting a cocktail dress for a fashion industry event, or wearing an effortlessly cool ensemble as she makes her way across the Tuileries in Paris, one thing is certain: Polish model Anja Rubik is guaranteed to be turning heads thanks to her modern and chic sense of style. Accordingly, we just couldn’t look past Anja for our latest Model Style story! As always, let’s start with a little background history. Poland-born Anja entered a local modeling contest in 2000, where she was scouted by a Parisian modeling agency. She made her debut at the fall Givenchy, Rochas, and Nina Ricci shows in Paris, and the rest, as they say, is history! Since then, she has walked for heavyweights such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Prada, and appeared on the covers of a slew of magazines. With these major fashion moments under her belt, it is no surprise she is one of the most stylish stars in the modeling world! On that note, we present Model Style: Anja Rubik!
Fact: we can always count on our model muses to elevate a little black dress from simple to statement-making. For example, just look at the LBD Anja wore to this year’s Art of Elysium Gala in New York City. The otherwise unfussy silhouette was given a bold boost through cut-out panels, lace-trimmed edges, and safety-pin clasps. For a similarly fashion-forward ensemble, we suggest starting with an equally bold LBD such as Sass & Bide’s Take A Flight Dress ($510) or Forever Unique’s Cut Out Square Neck Dress ($252.75). Then, simply add a pair of suede ankle booties; we like Thakoon’s Ruffle Suede Booties ($795) and Elizabeth & James’ Lizzy Booties ($259.50). Complete your look with a slick of glossy black nail polish.
Running from show to show must be a daunting task: not only are you rushing to your next rendezvous, you also have to face a horde of street style photographers. Luckily, Anja is always one step ahead! We just love the fresh and fashion-forward ensemble Anja was spotted in as she left the Viktor & Rolf Spring 2010 show in Paris last year. To replicate Anja’s ultra-cool look, look for a pair of printed harem pants; we like Religion’s Animal Print Pants ($84.25) and By Malene Birger’s Linexa Silk & Wool-Blend Harem Pants ($320). Add Current/Elliott’s The Long-Sleeve Biker Jacket ($182) and J Crew’s Cashmere Slouchy Sweater ($168), and then throw on a pair of Gap’s The City Flats ($39.50).
In July, the crème de la crème of the fashion industry descended upon Versailles, France, for the Valentino Garavani Archives dinner party. Naturally, Anja was perfectly put together in her satin green Lanvin dress, suede ankle boots, and just-messy-enough hair—all in all, an ensemble that will work for your next party, first date, or girl’s night out. For a similarly stylish ensemble, start with a pretty cocktail dress such as Nanette Lepore’s La Marocain Dress ($348) or Halston Heritage’s One Shoulder Wrap Dress ($345). Complete your look with a pair of suede ankle booties; we like Aldo’s Furrer Boots ($49.98) and Vanyo Boots ($70), as well as Burberry’s Knotted Suede Ankle Boots ($750).
One of the things we love most about Anja’s personal style is her talent for trying trends without going overboard. Case in point: this silky military-green shirt, which Anja was spotted wearing while out and about in September. While the military vibe is so right now, her shirt is understated, which means it can be worn season after season. To assemble an equally chic ensemble, start with a silky army-green button-down such as Calvin Klein’s Knit Back Boyfriend Shirt ($49.99) or Bebe’s Silk Crepe Shirt ($79). Then, add a pair of Nasty Gal’s Black Tie Tap Shorts ($58). Complete your look by throwing Foley + Corinna’s Bitty Biker Mini Bucket Bag ($345) over your shoulder.
For our final dose of inspiration, we headed back to the Tuileries in Paris. In February, Anja was spotted leaving the Christian Dior show in a simple-but-stylish ensemble: skinny jeans, biker boots, shearling jacket, cashmere scarf. Overall, the Anja’s outfit epitomizes the off-duty model vibe, thanks to its easy-with-an-edge aesthetic. For a similarly modish look, layer a shearling jacket—we like Helmut Lang’s Wrecked Shearling Jacket ($1,840) and June’s Tumbled Fur Collar Leather Jacket ($572)—under Love Quotes’s Hand Knotted Tassel Scarf ($85). Add your favorite skinny blue jeans (or try Yes Zee By Essenza’s Jeans ($105)) and then finish with a pair of Ash’s Reverso Biker Boots ($265).
