Model Style: Cara Delevingne

Thanks to her numerous appearances at London Fashion Week, we have British model Cara Delevingne on our minds—and it is not just because of her turns on the runway. On the contrary, we have had our eye on Cara for a while now thanks to her sense of personal style, which is the perfect mix of edgy model off-duty and British quirk. So, if you love Cara’s style as much as we do, we suggest you click through to today’s Model Style story to discover what she loves to wear, how she wears it, and how you can make her look your own!

What does she wear?
Cara is a master of all trades—whether she is putting together a more glamorous look, or creating something for her off-duty moments. For the opening of the Burberry boutique in Paris in December (far left), Cara wore a slinky black halterneck dress, black tights, and chunky platform heels. With her red clutch in hand, she was quite the picture, not to mention perfectly at home in such a glamorous setting. For a less casual event—the Burberry Serpentine Summer party in London, back in June (second from left)—she donned a white long-sleeved frock, biker boots, and a printed headband. Later in September, Cara put together another casually-chic outfit—a blue mini dress, navy blazer, and her favorite biker boots—for the Rimmel Party in London (far right). As for her off-duty days, you can see that she turns to more casual pieces. For instance, when spotted out and about in Milan last month (second from right), she was wearing a biker jacket, skinny jeans, slouchy tee, and studded boots.

How does she style it?
As you can see, Cara is a minimalist at heart. Though she always looks like she has put plenty of thought into her outfits, she opts for just one or two key pieces and then follows up with one or two key accessories. Her rule of thumb, it seems, is to put together a simple yet stylish outfit, and then add a statement accessory—whether it is a red clutch that pops out against an all-black outfit, a headband that instantly catches the eye, or a long pendant necklace. She also tends to stay true to pieces that she knows work well for her—such as her buckled biker boots—instead of switching up her style. This proves just how down-to-earth she is about fashion.

How can I make Cara’s look my own?
If you have a glamorous event in mind, look for little black dresses with an interesting twist—whether that is a fun neckline or a pleated skirt. We like ABS’s Belted Silk Halter Dress ($150) and Halston Heritage’s Pleated Halter Dress ($403), both of which would look great with Rachel Comey’s Birdie Quilted Leather Lace-Up Ankle Boots ($490). If you want to tackle Cara’s casually-chic looks, looks for mini dresses in solid colors like Vanessa Bruno Athé’s Jersey Mini Dress ($124) and Zara’s Crossover Back Dress ($60) and pair them with Madewell’s Biker Boots ($248) and head-turning accessories like Dauphines of New York’s Movie Star Headband ($130) and Vanessa Mooney’s Heart Glass Pendant Necklace ($49). On your days off, you can channel Cara by picking up Mango’s Biker Leather Jacket ($340) or ASOS’s Leather Biker Jacket ($179) and pairing it with Topshop’s Moto Leigh Supersoft Skinny Jeans ($76).
