Model Style: Dree Hemingway

Confession: This isn’t the first time we have profiled Dree Hemingway in our Model Style story and it’s unlikely to be the last. You see, here at Mama’s A Rolling Stone, we can’t get enough of the Idaho-born beauty and her cool sense of personal style—whether she is attending a fashion industry party, spotted backstage at a show, or out on the streets of Paris and Milan, Dree always looks stylishly smart. On that note, if you love Dree’s style as much as we do, read on for all the need-to-know details on what she wears and how she wears it!

1. We often find that the best way to compose an outfit is to balance one piece with another, which is why we love the look that Dree created for a Dior event in New York City back in December. Dree used a flirty floral Dior dress as the starting point but then tempered the overtly feminine vibe of the dress by layering a slouchy grey jersey sweater over it. The contrast between the two pieces instantly catches the eye, turning the ensemble into a major style statement. If you are drawn to this look, pick up Anna Sui’s Silk Dress ($705) or Rare’s Opulence Floral Lace Drape Dress ($149.57) and pair it with ASOS’s Boat Neck Sweater ($55.40). To finish, add a pair of Topshop’s Snake Perspex Platform Court Shoes ($145).

2. There are a number of ways to execute the 1970s-inspired bohemian trend that is sweeping the fashion world right now, but we are particularly partial to Dree’s take on the trend. In April, Dree was spotted at a screening of Scream 4 in New York City wearing wide-leg jeans, a lightweight Breton-striped sweater, and a skinny leather belt. We love the way this outfit exudes a hippie-luxe vibe but doesn’t feel too forced. The result is an outfit that could be worn to a fashion industry event, on a shopping trip, or to a casual business meeting. To try this look, grab Current/Elliott’s Low Bell Jeans ($209) and pair them with Meadham Kirchhoff’s Breton Top ($80). Then, simply add Cooperative’s Skinny Suede Tassel Belt ($4.99) and Molokai’s Tooled Leather Bag ($128).

3. While we adore Dree’s low-key looks, we also love her panache for party dressing. For instance, for the launch of the Matthew Williamson Impulse for Macy’s collection, which took place in New York City in April, Dree wore a printed halterneck gown. The look has a glamorous vibe, but thanks to the muted color palette and soft silhouette, the ensemble still stays true to Dree’s overall unfussy and slightly bohemian aesthetic. Plus, the ensemble is super versatile; it could be worn to a party, a summer wedding, or even on vacation. Inspired? Try this look by picking up Simone’s Chiffon Beaded Dress ($995) or Lisa Jayne Dann’s Paisley Print Halter Maxi Dress ($304.67). For a glam twist, add platform sandals; for a low-key look, wear flat beaded sandals.

4. Finding the right balance between casual and chic can be tricky, but if you look to Dree for inspiration, you will be just fine. For a V magazine party in New York City last September, Dree wore a chic black suit and leopard-print pumps. To give her look a casual twist, she added in a denim shirt and a great jersey tank top. By adding these items, Dree ensured her ensemble was stylish enough for a fashion industry party, but low-key enough for an off-duty model! To assemble an equally unfussy look, grab a simple tank and Topshop’s Fitted Denim Shirt ($60) and layer them underneath Silence & Noise’s Boyfriend Blazer ($78). Add River Island’s Chain Belted Harem Pants ($64.61) and then complete your look with a pair of Kate Spade’s Deb Wedges ($298).
