Although Rosie Huntington-Whitely has been branded by the UK press as the “next Kate Moss,” our muse for this month’s edition of Model Style is quickly proving that she can pave her own way in the fashion world. With several modeling accolades under her belt, our stylish muse is happy to make a name for herself.
Despite her success, Rosie never set out to be a model and her start in the modeling industry came about purely by chance. In 2003 she arrived at Profile, a London modeling agency, to begin work experience as a booker. She was immediately signed up by the agency and the work started to flood in. Before long, she was in Teen Vogue and Vogue Nippon.
Since that day, her star has only risen further and Rosie has worked with designers like Ralph Lauren and BCBG Max Azria. Earlier this year she was named Model of the Year at the 2009 Elle Style Awards and this week she was named as one of five new Victoria’s Secret Angels.
Though it is safe to say that Rosie has access to some of the world’s best fashion designers, there is no amount of free clothes that can make you stylish. For Rosie, that just comes naturally. From skinny jeans to thigh-skimming mini dresses, each outfit is a master class in knowing what works for your body (although it doesn’t hurt to have a body like Rosie’s to work with).
Although there are elements of bohemian-luxe in Rosie’s style, overall it seems that she stays away from prints and instead, opts for clothes that have a rocker-chic feel to them.
When it comes to denim, Rosie clearly prefers the clean lines of a skinny jean, usually in black. Although there are many options available, we like Topshop’s Black Knitted Skinny Jeans ($80) and Ksubi’s Super Skinny Zip Jeans ($229). Or, for something a little different, try an ultra-tight pair of Blank Denim’s Leggings ($78).
As Rosie shows, the skinny jean is extremely versatile and can be worn day or night, dressed up or dressed down.
If you prefer Rosie’s smart-but-casual look in the middle, pair your jeans with a plain white tee and a cropped jacket. For a stylish stand-in, we like Silence & Noise’s Faux Suede Blazer ($49.99). Add a pair of Kelcey Crackle-Metallic Ballet Flats ($79.99) for a little glitz.
For Rosie’s vamped-up daytime look (far right), try pairing a leather motorcycle jacket and a printed scarf with your skinnies. For a similar look, try Jack by BB Dakota’s Kava Jacket ($56) and Tory Burch’s Lightweight Printed Scarf ($95) in blue leopard print.
When it comes to nighttime, take Rosie’s style cues by pairing your jeans with a buttoned-down boyfriend shirt and a silver belt. See by Chloe’s 70s Tuxedo Ruffle Tunic ($375) would look amazing with Guess by Marciano’s Jasmine Jeweled Belt ($148) and the Planet Boots ($149) by Guess.
Although Rosie’s love for the skinny jean is clear, we can’t help but notice that she has an affinity for mini dresses. In addition, it seems that when she wears a mini dress, a little added detail doesn’t go astray.
There’s nothing like a bit of fringe to shake up your look and Rosie’s red dress is certainly a stand-out. For a similar look, we like Gold Hawk’s Fringe Poncho Dress ($187) or Free People’s Shake It Fringe Dress ($138). Add a pair of Boutique 9’s Rizzo Satin Platform Stiletto Gladiator Sandals ($99.99) to finish off your look.
Finally, if you’re after a glamorous look that’s not too over-the-top, Rosie’s sequin mini dress is the way to go. Try Beyond Vintage’s Sequin Mini Dress ($326) or French Connection’s Fast Lust Sequin Fitted Dress ($240). For the final touch, add Langston’s Ankle Boot ($159).
