Model Style: Summer 2010

Since most models spend a good portion of their year dressed to the nines, dolled up in couture dresses and layers of heavy makeup, it is hardly surprising that, when given the opportunity to take it down a notch, they relish it.

Since most models spend a good portion of their year dressed to the nines, dolled up in couture dresses and layers of heavy makeup, it is hardly surprising that, when given the opportunity to take it down a notch, they relish it. Given their penchant and clear passion for off-duty outfits, we decided to take some styling tips from four of our favorite models in this special edition of Model Style.

Erin Wasson, Gisele Bundchen, Alessandra Ambrosio and Carmen Hillestad have all perfected the art of summer styling. While Erin has long-refined her Texas-meets-California-meets-New-York aesthetic, Carmen has applied her faultless style to festival fashion. If you are summer-ready and looking for some sunny inspiration, look no further!

While Texan beauty Erin Wasson (far left) is known for her laidback approach to fashion (and life), there is no denying that she has an eye for style. While out walking her dog in New York City, Erin was captured by fellow model Hanneli Mustaparta in a low-key ensemble – loose skinny jeans, slouchy white tee and printed slip-on sneakers – with just enough accessories to take the outfit from casual to cool. For a similarly unfussy look, try Velvet By Graham & Spencer’s Vintage Burnout Drape Tee ($59.50), Gap’s Slouchy Skinny Destructed Jeans ($69.50) and Urban Outfitters’s Printed Dotties Slip-Ons ($18). Accessorize with ASOS’s Statement Coins Necklace ($23.67) and a ring from Erin’s own collection: the Armor Knuckle Ring ($80) by LowLuv.

While Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen (second from left) would undoubtedly look amazing in just about anything, we are more than partial to her off-duty look. Spotted recently while out running errands in Santa Monica, the supermodel paired a boho blouse with skinny jeans and leather ankle boots; all in all, a laidback look that is perfect for a summer barbecue or day out shopping. To try Gisele’s summer-ready style, grab Beyond Vintage’s Long Sleeve Dashiki Shirt ($128) and J Brand’s Petite 12″ Pencil Jeans ($159). Throw on a pair of Fabienne’s Foldover Ankle Booties ($188) and then add a braided, hippie-luxe belt, like Delias’s Hazel Colorful Braided Belt ($14.99).

Of course, Gisele isn’t alone when it comes to super-stylish supermodels from Brazil; the beautiful Alessandra Ambrosio (second from right) was recently spotted out and about in Los Angeles, sporting a summer-ready ensemble – draped Wildfox Couture tee, wide leg jeans, chunky wedge heels and Isabel Marant earrings. If you love Alessandra’s simple yet stylish outfit, start your look off with her Wildfox Couture Desert Eagle Oversize V Neck Tee ($77) and then add a pair of Elizabeth & James’s Jimi Caravan Jeans ($245). Add a pair of Rosegold’s Cara Cork Wedges ($168) and then finish off your look with colorful feather earrings. We like Topshop’s Patterned Feather Earrings ($18) and Forever21’s Feather Earrings ($3.80).

Before we close, we must pay homage to this effortless festival-chic ensemble from Norwegian stunner Carmen Hillestad (far right). Spotted by Hanneli Mustaparta at this year’s Coachella Valley Festival, Carmen smoothly mixed a hippie-chic aesthetic with a little rock & roll swagger to come up with this lesson in festival fashion. For a similarly stylish ensemble, start with a vintage-inspired capelet like Three Dots’s Shirred Capelet ($115) or Missoni’s Arizona Short Caftan ($940). Add a pair of Siwy’s Denim Camilla Cutoffs ($151) and then accessorize with Jocasi’s Leather Hatrick Moon Over Body Bag ($67.64) and Eugenia Kim’s Honey Sunhat ($297).
