New York Fashion Week, Fall 2011: Day 7

Yesterday—day seven of New York Fashion Week—brought us into the home stretch and, needless to say, we didn’t get this far without another brand new batch of shows! Labels such as (from left to right) Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Anna Sui all showed collections yesterday to captivated audiences. As you can see, viewers were treated to a surplus of prints, silhouettes, colors and textures, which is why we have plenty to discuss! On that note, let’s get started!

The Proenza Schouler show is a perennial favorite at fashion week for a reason: the brand consistently turns out cool collections that have the audience in awe. This season, things aren’t any different. For fall, Proenza Schouler’s designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez were inspired by a road trip they took to Santa Fe and the prints and colors of the Native American blankets they found there. Upon their return, they turned to their computers to create Native American-inspired prints, which they then pixelated to create the geometric patterns you see on the clothes. Speaking of the clothes, you’ll find cowgirl-style button-down shirts, colorblock sheath dresses, flared blazers, fringe-embellished skirts, chunky printed cardigans, and more. Our final thoughts: you won’t have to go far to find these clothes when fall arrives—we’re sure they’ll be spotted all over New York City, street style blogs, and music festivals.

Stylist Rachel Zoe once said she goes into an Oscar de la Renta show knowing she’ll find a gown for the Academy Awards. Chances are, if she wasn’t spending this fashion week in Los Angeles waiting for her firstborn child, she would have found several. There was a black sheath dress with a tulle mermaid-style bottom. There was a one-shouldered silver number with layers of shimmering beaded fringe. There was a velvet gown with a plunging neckline. In one word: stunning.
