As you know, New York Fashion Week officially kicked off on Thursday and, needless to say, we are beyond excited here at Mama’s A Rolling Stone. On that note, here is a quick recap of what has taken place so far. For the last five days, brands including (from left to right) Alexander Wang, DKNY, Marc By Marc Jacobs, and Rag & Bone have taken to the catwalk to show off their spring 2012 wares. While Alexander Wang showed a collection inspired by sport—from race car driving to motocross—the Marc By Marc Jacobs show was inspired by arty destinations like Bauhaus and Marfa.
Of course, there were plenty of other references to pay attention to in the first five days. The DKNY show, unsurprisingly, paid homage to New York; models walked against a backdrop that showed an iconic yellow cab. Meanwhile, at Rag & Bone, designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright alluded to an array of sources, including the Glastonbury music festival, 1990s raves, and 1970s surf culture. Diane von Furstenberg focused on “new beginnings,” Rachel Zoe cited “easy glamour,” and Prabal Gurung alluded to the photographs of Nobuyoshi Araki.
