After eight days, New York Fashion Week has officially come to an end and the fashion pack has crossed the Atlantic to attend the shows at London Fashion Week. So, what went down during the final three days? Brands including (from left to right) Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Anna Sui, and Ralph Lauren showed their spring 2012 collections to adoring audiences, while party after party took place. So. At Marc Jacobs, the show started with a bang or, to be specific, a dance hall. When the curtain pulled back, the audience was greeted with the entire cast of models waiting to walk, some reclining over wooden chairs, some posing. As for the clothes, they were as diverse and magical as one would expect, especially when one learns that Jacobs took inspiration from sources such as Amy Winehouse and dance halls.
At Proenza Schouler, the inspiration was just as different. Using Googie architecture as a jump-off point, the designers created a sharp, retro collection that featured slim silhouettes complete with Hawaiian prints and interesting textures. At Anna Sui, there were prints a-plenty, naturally, this time with a Parisian spin, while at Ralph Lauren, the clothes referenced the roaring twenties. In summary, women of every ilk could find something to love at New York Fashion Week, which is, really, the beauty of it.
