This week: I am petite (5’1″) but also plus-size (14). (Up until a few years ago, I was a size 0 my whole life.) I love maxi dresses. My style is similar to Rachel Zoe—lines I love but cannot fit into include Winter Kate, Elizabeth and James, Alice & Olivia, Rachel Zoe, etc. At this point, my budget is limited. I try to hide my upper arms and tummy. Can you recommend a maxi dress or two and tell me how to rock them!? I love vintage too, but it is usually hard to find vintage dresses in my size as they run smaller than today’s styles. I also love natural fibers and rayon or rayon-spandex blend for the maxi. I do not like large floral prints. Thanks so much for your help! – Dawn
Hi Dawn. You are in luck—one of our favorite brands, Rachel Pally, has a plus-size line that is just perfect for you: Rachel Pally White Label. We think the Romeo Dress ($277) is particularly ideal as it has a gorgeous flared sleeve, a bohemian print, and an ultra-flattering silhouette. The Athena Dress ($282), while strapless, is also really pretty. We are similarly smitten with Jessica Simpson’s Sleeveless Empire-Waist Dress ($168). The colors are light and soft, which is perfect for summer, and once again the silhouette is very flattering. Team all three of these dresses with a pair of killer heels or a great wedge, add a stack of bangles, and let your hair down—you are all set. Finally, if you want something for night, we suggest you check out the Beaded Dress ($199) by Alex Evenings. When coupled with peep-toe heels and a cute clutch, it will look amazing! Happy shopping!
