Runway To Reality: Gucci, Fall 2011

While many collections had our hearts racing during the fall 2011 shows, none excited us quite like the offering from Frida Giannini at Gucci. Yes, dear readers, between the plush furs, the python prints, and the chiffon dresses—all of which were done in a palette of jade, aubergine, amber, and scarlet—we were smitten, which is why the collection is the subject of today’s Runway To Reality story. Whether you are looking for budget-friendly versions of the luxe accessories, or you just want to add some Gucci-inspired glamour to your wardrobe, we’re sure you’ll find plenty of ideas and inspiration inside!

Now that the temperatures have started to drop, we can’t wait to bundle up in a plush fur à la Gucci, which is why the first piece we picked out for today’s story is Reiss’s Jillie Faux Fur Gilet ($465). First and foremost, it is a faux fur option, which we heartily approve of, but that isn’t all that reeled us in. We also love the soft, velvety texture and the lush blue hue. What will we pair it with? During the party season, this coat will look amazing with a mini dress. If you prefer a solid color, make sure you check out Reiss’s Myla Strap Flippy Dress ($300). The color combination is bold, yes, but that is what the Gucci show was all about. If you want something a little less bold, pick up Phoebe Couture’s Blouson-Sleeve Printed Dress ($177). (As you can see, a similar dress was worn on the catwalk.) We suggest you pair this dress with a felt hat, the aforementioned faux fur, and a pair of strappy heels. The result is the perfect modern-boho look for the fall season. Then again, if you prefer sophisticated separates over an all-in-one look, we suggest you pick up a jewel-toned blouse—like ASOS’s Kimono Tie Waist Top ($52.38)—and pair it with a silky midi skirt and knee-high leather boots. The result is cool and sexy, all at once.

Of course, the thing that really brought this collection together was the accessories—fedora with feathers, python-print bags, and more. On that note, if you want to start off with a low-key version of the fur chubbies seen on the runway, we suggest you check out Topshop’s Faux Fur Stole ($100). You can drape it over a party dress, tuck it under the collar of a wool coat, or wear it as an accompaniment to your favorite cardigan. Either way, it will add a plush element to your ensemble, not to mention a pop of color. A felt hat is definitely a great way to give your accessories closet a Gucci-inspired touch this fall. We like ASOS’s Wide Brim Fedora Hat ($43.65). The blue hues are universally flattering, while the feather embellishments will certainly turn heads. To finish, make sure you pick up a python-print bag in a jewel tone like ruby, sapphire, or emerald. We love Nine West’s Around Town Crossbody Bag ($59). It comes in several luxe colors, but more importantly, it will fit all your necessities. Finally, your look won’t be complete without a dash of rich lipstick. We suggest starting with L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Lipcolor in Blushing Berry ($6.99). It is perfect for fall: rich and creamy, with just a hint of shine. Happy shopping!
