Runway To Reality: Rag & Bone

Whether you’re looking for budget-friendly versions of Rag & Bone’s highly-coveted outerwear, or you just want to channel their cool downtown aesthetic, Runway To Reality is here to help!

Runway To Reality: Rag & Bone

In February, Rag & Bone designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright presented their first stand-alone women’s show at New York Fashion Week. The verdict? An out-and-out success, thanks to the collection’s overflow of plaid accents, chunky knits, tweed jackets, sweater dresses, oversized scarves, and grunge-inspired makeup. Now, while we would love to snap up the entire collection, there’s always a catch—money—which is where Runway To Reality comes in. That’s right, dear readers. Whether you’re looking for budget-friendly versions of Rag & Bone’s highly-coveted outerwear, or you just want to channel their cool downtown aesthetic via a plaid shirtdress or wool dress, our latest Runway To Reality story is dedicated to finding you plenty of accessible ideas and inspiration. Read on!

For fall, Rag & Bone looked to the “crazy English guys who climbed Mount Everest in the twenties in tweed” for inspiration. The result? Camouflage anoraks, oversized tweed coats, fur-trimmed cape coats and plaid ponchos, all of which would make perfect additions to your fall closet. In particular, we love the patchwork Northfield Poncho ($795) and Leigh Military Cotton Jacket ($475)—both pieces are a great way to shift spring’s military trend into fall. Of course, the big question is: how can you get Rag & Bone’s coveted outerwear looks at a budget-friendly price?

1. Military Knitted Cape ($67.40) by ASOS
This army-green cape is a great way to channel Rag & Bone’s military vibe. Plus, capes are a major fall trend. There’s nothing like killing two birds with one stone!

6. Paxton Tweed Blazer ($60) from Delia’s
Part preppy school girl, part polished chic, this tweed blazer is a closet must-have. We recommend wearing it with a plaid button-down shirt or throwing it over a chunky knit sweater.

9. Hooded Pom Pom Coat ($145) by Topshop
Rag & Bone’s fur-trimmed coats are one of the most coveted pieces from the collection. Accordingly, when we spotted this hooded pom pom coat at Topshop, we just knew it was the perfect budget-friendly alternative.

If we had it our way, we’d be living in Rag & Bone’s cool separates all season long. Specifically, we loved the grunge-inspired Kemble Cardigan ($495), the cozy Grayling Fair Isle Sweater ($355), and the sophisticated Ledbury Wrap Skirt ($255), but, if truth be told, there isn’t a single piece we would pass up. So, how do these pieces translate to real life?

3. Knitted Button Detail Dress ($85) by Topshop
This sweater dress is a great investment piece. Although it is super stylish, it is also simple, which makes it a great starting point for a heavily-accessorized ensemble.

4. Plaid Bethnal Shirt ($68) by Madewell
Layered under a tweed blazer, or worn with a sweater dress, this grunge-inspired plaid shirt will give your outfit an instant boost with its bright pop of blue.

7. Plaid Wool Blend Pleated Mini Skirt ($152.99) by Geren Ford
Something about this skirt instantly evokes a slew of possible combinations: wear it with an army-green cape, wear it with a slouchy black sweater, or wear it with a military button-down.

10. Checked Cotton Shirt Dress ($195) by APC
How sophisticated is this cotton shirt dress? We love the thought of layering it under a chunky cardigan, or pairing it with a snug wool coat and black opaque tights.

Like stylist Rachel Zoe, we “literally die” for accessories. Happily, Rag & Bone’s fall accessories are worth dying for: knit sack bags, chunky legwarmers, platform-heel hiking boots, and low-slung utility belts, to name just a few. But, to be exact, it is pieces like the Kemble Scarf ($195) and Odval Desert Suede Wedge Boots ($450) that have us fervently looking for budget-friendly alternatives.

2. Buzzy Fair Isle Sweater Leg Warmers ($128) by Marc By Marc Jacobs
It’s a fact: nothing looks better than knit legwarmers and a pair of black ankle boots. We love the playful print on this cozy pair.

5. Intarsia Cowl Scarf ($34) by Cooperative
This chunky cowl scarf is the easiest way to channel Rag & Bone’s sought-after fall aesthetic without breaking the bank. Plus, we just love the warm blue and purple palette.

8. Hue Fair Isle Tweed Boot Socks ($6) from Dillard’s
If leg warmers aren’t your style, you can always take the traditional route and pick a pair of Fair Isle socks. These are chic, cozy and comfortable, all at once.

11. Carmen Lace Up Heeled Ankle Boots ($143.23) by Killah
Black ankle boots are a fall must-have, so why not channel Rag & Bone’s stellar footwear style and pick a cool, buckled and laced iteration?
