What Do You Think About Seventeen Magazine's Body Peace Treaty?

In Seventeen Magazine’s August 2012 issue, Ann Shoket, the magazine’s editor in chief, writes in her editor’s letter that Seventeen is launching a Body Peace Treaty. The initiative comes in response to a petition organized by teenager Julia Bluhm, who used Change.org to ask Seventeen to print one unaltered photo in its magazine each month. So, the Body Peace Treaty is here. And what it promises is this: that Seventeen will never change girls’ body or face shapes; that Seventeen will celebrate every kind of beauty; that Seventeen will feature real girls and models who are healthy; and that Seventeen will be up front about what goes into a photo shoot. What the pact does not include, however, is a specific promise to show unedited, unretouched images. So, what do you think? Is the Body Peace Treaty enough? Or do you think Seventeen could take it a step further? [NYT]
