While I love the cozy and chic offerings of fall and winter, spring always puts a little pep in my step. There is just something about spring fashion—sun dresses, sandals, and pops of color—that makes my heart skip a beat. Unfortunately, I can’t scoop up everything that my heart desires, which is why I have put together a flawless (I hope!) shopping strategy. The plan, so far, is to pick out pieces that may be on-trend now, but will also last season after season, year after year. On that note, click through to today’s Style Essentials story to discover the eight must-have pieces I will be shopping for this spring.
The first point of action on my shopping list this spring is to refresh my denim collection—and I can’t think of a better way to do it than with Current/Elliott’s Stiletto Animal Print Jeans ($455). The leopard-print pattern gives an otherwise casual piece a classic twist, while the smears of pastel pink and green down each side are the perfect way to head into summer. The next goal is to infuse my wardrobe with some color, especially in the tops department, which brings me to Zara’s Asymmetric Seamed Top ($50). The bright yellow hue will make any outfit pop, but what I really love about this top is that it can be worn anytime and anywhere—from the office to the beach. Speaking of the office, I was really intrigued by the soft-hued suits that were all over the spring runways, but in particular, I loved the offerings that Riccardo Tisci designed for Givenchy. Unfortunately, they are well outside my budget, which is why I have my eye on 10 Crosby by Derek Lam’s One Button Blazer ($495) and Boot Leg Pants ($265). This blazer-and-pants combo has such a luxe quality to it, so it is more investment, less impulse! Of course, I also plan to start spring off on the right foot with a couple of brand new dresses! In particular, I am coveting IRO’s Waffle Knit Dress ($165) and Edun’s Printed Stretch-Silk Dress ($500). Though each piece does pay tribute to the current spring trends—sporty-chic and global glamour, respectively—neither is so singularly trend-focused that it can’t be worn next season and beyond!
Now, accessories! When it comes to accessories, I like to take a 30/70 approach—each item I pick should be 30% devoted to function and 70% devoted to fashion. Take, for instance, sunglasses. This season, I am planning to pick up a pair of Mango’s Cat-Eye Sunglasses ($30). Though they get the job done, so to speak, when it comes to protecting my eyes, they also make a statement thanks to the leopard-print pattern and cat-eye silhouette. Another great example of the function-meets-fashion approach is Mar Y Sol’s Dakar Basket Tote ($88). Basket bags are having a major moment right now, but they are also practical and decidedly roomy—all the better for a spring shopping trip or music festival. Lastly, I rarely deny my jewelry box a treat, which is why I am so excited about the latest accessory trend to sweep the fashion world: statement earrings. Earrings are one of my favorite ways to accessorize, so I will definitely be picking up a pair of BaubleBar’s Aztec Fan Drops ($26) and wearing them all season long, with casual pieces and glamorous pieces!
