Style Essentials: Summer 2012

There are a number of thoughts that run through my mind when it is time to shop for a new season—including the mood of the season, what my budget is looking like, and the weather. As you can see from my summer picks above, I am in the mood for color and print this summer, my budget requires a high/low mix, and the weather? Well, let’s hope it stays sunny and warm! With these thoughts in mind, I am thrilled to share the items I will be shopping for this summer in today’s Style Essentials story. Read on! –Bryna, Editor in Chief.

1. Fiesty Mix Leopard Sandals ($90) by Topshop
I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a leopard-print accessory and these sandals are perfect for a casual summer outfit. In summer, I like a cute flat sandal that will go with a variety of outfits.

2. Frilled Body Top ($36) by Zara
I like the way this top mixes girly ruffles with a bright coral color—and the price tag is definitely within my budget. I’ll be pairing this top with everything from denim shorts to skinny white jeans.

3. Sugar Coated Necklace ($58) by Anthropologie
The brightly-colored glass beads on this necklace immediately piqued my interest. The best part? Because this necklace makes such a statement, I can pair it with a simple white tee and still take my outfit to the next level.

4. Oscar Printed Silk Shorts ($285) by Elizabeth and James
These shorts are the perfect day-to-night piece. During the day, I’ll pair them with a navy blouse and flat sandals. At night, I can simply add jewelry and swap out the sandals for a great little wedge.

5. Daisy Guipure Dress ($209) by Juicy Couture
This dress is the perfect match for my mood! I love the way the bright yellow hue balances out the girly lace and clean silhouette. And it is such a strong piece that I need add nothing but a cute sandal.

6. Nail Lacquer in Wild Ginger ($18) by Le Metier de Beaute
I tend to stick to a simple beauty routine in summer but nail polish is a no brainer. This bright orange color is the perfect hue for summer—it is bold but not overly brazen.

7. Totem Print Kaftan ($464) by Mara Hoffman
This is definitely an investment piece but a cute cover-up is definitely a necessity when summer rolls around. This one protects from the sun, plus it has a bohemian vibe that I just love. I can’t say no!

8. Bijou Studded Triangle Bikini Top ($115) and Bikini Briefs ($110) by Eda
Obviously, I need a new bikini to go with the new cover-up and this bright number feels just right this summer. The pretty color and glam studs make it feel showy, but not overly so.
