Although the weather here is a little topsy-turvy, it is safe to say that winter has officially arrived, which in turn means it is time for a wardrobe reboot. This season, I have two focuses. First, I want to pick up a few sensible-yet-stylish pieces that will last season after season. Second, I want to incorporate a few new statement pieces into my wardrobe. On that note, read on to discover the eight Style Essentials I will be shopping for this winter and don’t forget to share your own winter style essentials with me in the comments below!
The first thing I look for when winter arrives is a chunky knit sweater, so I was thrilled when I spotted the Faux Fur Front Cardigan ($113) by MICHAEL Michael Kors. In particular, I love that this sweater is cozy and comfortable enough for wearing around the house, but it also has a glam vibe that makes it perfect for a shopping date or a casual dinner. In fact, I always like to look for pieces in winter that have that casual-chic aesthetic, which is why I also have my eye on Theory’s Salindra Light Leather Dress ($855). Once again, the leather gives it a luxe feel, but the silhouette and simple black hue makes it feel a little more low-key than your average leather dress. When it comes to bottoms, I have been eyeing two very different pieces. Firstly, I can’t resist the Pleated Wool-Blend Tweed Mini Skirt ($120) by Vanessa Bruno Athé. When worn with a simple cashmere sweater and ankle boots, this is a skirt that easily transitions from day to night. I also can’t say no to Joie’s Charleen Printed Pants ($258). They have a vacation-ready vibe to them, so I’ll be pairing them with a leather jacket during winter, then swapping out the jacket for a simple white tee when spring finally arrives.
When it comes to accessories this winter, I am starting out with two practical pieces. A pair of leather gloves is an essential that every girl should own. In particular, I like Mango’s Zig-Zag Leather Gloves ($50). They come in three different colors, although I will be buying the black, plus the contrast stitching gives these gloves an interesting twist. I will also be picking up a pair of boots—specifically, the Braden Boots ($100) by Vince Camuto. These boots have a slouchy silhouette that adds a bohemian touch to your outfit, which I really love, plus they work just as well with jeans as they do with a printed midi dress. I’ll be buying the taupe suede version. Last, but certainly not least, I plan to pick up two statement accessories that will make my outfits stand out. The Golden Snake Collar ($110) by Lee Angel is irresistible. Not only is it on-trend—collar necklaces were all over the fall runways—but it is has a timeless quality, making it more investment, less trend. Another piece that I can’t say no to is the Wide-Brim Fedora Hat ($11) by ASOS. It instantly evokes thoughts of Gucci’s fall collection, but is clearly a little more budget-friendly. Plus, who can say no to a feather? On that note, I am off to shop! Feel free to share your style essentials with me in the comments section below!
